Join us for a day excursion to La Granja de San Ildefonso and the medieval city of Segovia.

La Granja de San Ildefonso. This royal palace was built between 1720-23 by Felipe V, the first Bourbon ruler of Spain, and was designed in the late baroque style by French architects who had previously worked on Versailles. The formal gardens stretch out from the Palace in the French manner and include an impressive collection of fountains which operate without any mechanical means.

Although water conservation efforts normally dictate limited operation, there are several days each year when all the fountains are pressed into service and visitors can enjoy the gardens as they were meant to be.

Our visit on August 25th coincides with one of these special days: The Feast of San Luis, the patron of La Granja.

Segovia. What's there not to love about this beautiful city? Twisting streets opening onto sunny plazas, the largest and best preserved Roman Aqueduct anywhere, the highest concentration of Romanesque churches in all of Europe, the fairytale Alcazar castle and the scent of roast suckling pig around every corner - all surrounded by a medieval wall and nestled in a bucolic countryside setting that appears not to have changed since Isabella promised Columbus her financial support on his journey to discover America.

12:00 pm - Arrive: Segovia
