Get your kids book written! This is an un-hosted meetup for anyone who wants to come and write for a couple of hours in the company of other kids writers. This is a live session at The Mitre in Greenwich. The purpose of this meeting is to provide and receive critique on submitted extracts of members' creative writing, whether they're working on a novel, screenplay, poetry, a memoir or short story, etc. We share our extracts via email ahead of the meeting to give us all a chance to read the work in our own time and reflect upon it so as to be able to provide useful critique. If you want to submit an extract mail me at gpatrick66@hotmail.com to book a slot. If you are new to the group we ask that you participate in at least two of the Wednesday critiquing sessions before you submit work for review so that you get to know us and have a good understanding of how we operate. This will help you to get the most from a critique of your own work. Extracts should be approx 3,000 words and the full document (extract plus blurbs, questions etc) should not exceed 3,500 words in total. This week’s **Yay!-DHD Social** is at \*\*Mercato Metropolitano (\*\*42 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6DR), which is large, gently heated space (thankfully!) full of snack/dinner options you’ll think about ordering for an unnecessarily long time before choosing something you immediately defend as “the right call, actually”. This is Yay-DHD: a midweek social that reliably attracts people with ADHD, people who suspect they might have ADHD, and people who’ve simply noticed that most socials feel like admin with drinks. You do not need a diagnosis to attend, everyone is welcome! **What to expect:** Starts at 6.15pm, ends around 10pm, obviously come and go as you please. We are a social group, so fairly easy going and chatty. Don't worry if you're a newbie, we all were once and I (Kieran) know it can be nerve wracking to attend for the first time - It will be ok! We’ll be eating, drinking, talking, interrupting ourselves, losing the thread, finding a better one, and occasionally stopping mid-sentence because someone else’s food looks more interesting. Some people arrive straight from work looking mildly haunted. Others drift in later having almost stayed home. Everyone will, at some point, forget what they were saying. Mercato is ideal for this sort of thing. There’s movement, background buzz but not noisy, and enough going on that wandering off mid-conversation looks deliberate rather than rude. If you go quiet, it just seems like you’re thinking. If you leave early, nobody questions it — they’re too busy choosing between eight cuisines. Walk length 14 miles/22.5 km approx. Circular. A substantial and hilly North Chiltern walk across ancient woodland and following parts of the Chiltern Way and definitely in the top ten of Chiltern hikes. One particular feature of this walk is a chalk escarpment called Sharpenhoe Clappers which has iron age remains and is also believed to be haunted, it also has fantastic views along with the Barton Hills nature Reserve which we will walk past. Sharpenhoe Clappers 150m and the Barton Hills 160m. THIS IS A DEMANDING WALK BOTH IN LENGTH AND WITH NUMEROUS HILLS, PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THIS. Lunch & Finish Please bring a packed lunch and water for the walk. The hike should finish at about 4.30pm and include a 30 min lunch stop, however the time may be slightly earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (this is a complete day out). This is an in-person meeting. Did you know that unwanted emotions like loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, anger, fear, anxiety, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not chemical imbalance in your brain due to some nebulous chemical reactions by chance. Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you. The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life. For instance, let's say you are already carrying a huge load on your back, then you cannot take on much more, but, let's say something else happens to you, such as the difficulties from the Pandemic, then the resultant combined weight on you can take you over the edge, kind of like the straw that break the camel's back. When this happens, people's attention usually goes to the straw that was added, but actually the majority of the weight had come from the huge load that were already there, holding a person down and causing a person issues. So how do you remove the huge load that was already there? How do you lighten them up? Is it possible to get rid of them? That is what this meeting will be all about.
