Learn to sew a sweet cloth doll using the Sewing Smiles Doll pattern. This class is suitable for confident beginning sewists — students will receive tips on scrap piecing, embroidering faces, hair techniques, and creating a smooth, stuffed surface for their doll. Kira Wharton will share her decades of toy-making experience to help students create a one-of-a-kind doll, including sharing from her stash of colorful scrap fabrics for piecing the body; scrap yarn, ribbon, etc., for the hair; embroidery floss for the face, polyfil stuffing and a stuffing tool. \*\*\* Due to the size or other requirements of the class or concurrent scheduling, some classes are in our second-floor space: access is via stairs only. Come support Velocity's Monthly Warehouse Sale! We'll need help moving bicycles outside the warehouse before 9 a.m. and back inside at 1 p.m. In between, we'll greet customers, help them find bicycles and parts, and ring up their purchases on Square. Feel free to sign up even if you can't volunteer for the whole time. And remember to wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty with bicycle grease! Please note that volunteers under 18 are required to have a parent or guardian attend the beginning of their first volunteering session in order to sign a waiver for them, and volunteers under 16 are required to have a parent or guardian present with them during all the time they spend volunteering at Velocity.

**Registration is now OPEN for the Washington Spring Ball on Saturday, May 16th, 2026!** Come join us for a fabulous time! Doors open at 7:00 pm, dancing starts at 7:30. The Washington Spring Ball is a joyful yearly event of English Country Dancing to glorious music. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The band for the ball this year will be **Karen Axelrod** (keyboard), **Audrey Jaber** (violin), and **Miranda Weinberg** (violin) We have a practice session the day of the ball, where most of the dances will be taught. Attending the practice session is strongly encouraged but not required. In the evening at the ball, all dances will be briefed (talked-through) and then prompted for the first few rounds. Dancers wear what makes them feel happy and festive; some choose attire from the 18th or 19th century. Afternoon practice session from 2:00 - 5:00 pm on the day of the ball, at the Civic Building , which is included in the admission fee.
