La **calle Montcada**, actual núcleo de las galerías de arte y de importantes museos como el Picasso constituían el centro de aquella Barcelona rica. Los palacios medievales que hay allí nos recuerdan muy bien ese pasado: un período de esplendor truncado primero en el siglo XVI y, más tarde, con la guerra de Sucesión, cuando Felipe V hizo construir la ciudadela militar al otro lado del barrio de La Ribera. Ahora, entre las antiguas piedras de la Ribera se exhiben restaurantes, locales nocturnos y tiendas de moda, llenando de color un barrio viejo pero de belleza renovada.
