Home to the French Embassy and the Lycée Charles de Gaulle, South Kensington has become famous as the contemporary ‘French area’ of London, an area teeming with French landmarks, buildings and history. This tour includes the Ambassade de France, Michelin House, Institut Français, Lycée Français and the Royal Albert Hall. You’ll learn about Napoleon III, the Free French and the Entente Cordiale, whilst enjoying a gentle two-hour walk taking in some of the most beautiful parts of Hyde Park and South Kensington. We will start from the French Embassy, close to Knightsbridge Station and on the side of Hyde Park, and then, going to Albert Memorial, to South Kensington ending in front of the Institut Français. This stroll is a refreshing opportunity to find out more about French presence in London and to speak French in an relaxed way. Welcome to another one of the WALK events where you have the opportunity to explore all the scenic routes I’ll execute whether there’s nature within, whether we get immersed within the city and feel great about yourself. 
With this particular walk, we will be walking through Greenwich. The Olympic way between the O2 and the Cutty Sark offers some unique sceneries from certain angles we never thought we’d see. Alongside that, the walk is a soothing one too. After this walk, we will be heading to ‘The Sail Loft’ nearby if you wish. This river Bar has a soothing ambiance, it’s well modernised and it’s a perfect spot on the river with that panoramic view of Canary Wharf and the O2 from where we initially departed. A most beautiful walk along the Regents Canal and Victoria Park by the Hertford Union Canal to arrive at the wonderful Olympic Park in Stratford by teatime. Come along on Saturday 3rd January to visit the amazing Cinema Museum! **About the museum** The museum opened in 1986 and is a collection of everything to do with cinema-going. The collection was started by cinema projectionist Ronald Grant (who co-runs the museum today) and the collection is what he has collected over the last 60 years to do with the cinema (when cinema's were independent). The collection grew far beyond its origins as an enthusiast's treasure trove to become an extensive archive of historical and social importance, and Ronald, along with Martin Humphries established the Cinema Museum to safeguard the collections future. The museum has posters, art deco cinema chairs, projectors, ushers' uniforms from the 1940's, tickets, ashtrays and popcorn cartons, as well as an archive boasting hundreds of books, photos and 17 million feet of film. The museum is housed in the admin block of the old Lambeth Workhouse (built in 1873 and one of the few remaining workhouses in London), which has it's own movie links. As a young boy, Charlie Chaplin along with his half brother Sydney and their mother spent one year living in the workhouse. **About the visit** Before we enter, I will give a 10 minute talk on the history of the Lambeth Workhouse. I will then show you a few things in the museum, before taking you upstairs to the former Workhouse chapel. Our January program is privileged to have Kristen Tregar as our speaker. Ms. Tregar is the co-author with John de Lancie (the actor who portrayed the character Q on Star Trek next generation) of a radio play depicting the events surrounding the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District trial. The trial decided the issue of some of the Dover school district board members attempting to insert creationism disguised as "intelligent design" into the 9th grade biology curriculum. She will discuss the trial and the process of writing the play. (Bob Leonhard has seen the play and it is riveting and tense). Ms. Tregar's bio is below: Kristen Tregar is a dramaturg, director, playwright, and theatre teacher. She earned her Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre from the UC San Diego and UC Irvine joint program. In addition, she has a MS in Forensic Science from City University of New York- John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a MA in Educational Theatre from New York University- Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. In 2013, in collaboration with Irish colleagues, she founded *The Ireland Project*, an intercontinental devised theatre work with high school students in New York and Tallaght, Ireland. Her original short story "Far From Here" was recently published in *Stay Awhile Longer: More Scenes From Temecula Valley*.
