**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/hard-wood-treasure-box-15/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/hard-wood-treasure-box-15/) **⋆⋆⋆** This is a content rich three-day course in a very small class size which includes: * **Supervised use of woodwork machinery**. **(surface planer thicknesser, panel saw, table router, hand router and bandsaw.)** * **Learning how to use jigs and rods**. * **Solid wood carcass construction.** From a technical drawing and a length of timber to the final sanding of the completed box, expert furniture maker and tutor, Marcin Waszak will guide each learner through all the steps needed to create this hardwood treasure box. The box measures 330mm x 304mm x 180mm and can be used to store lots of special things and perhaps become an heirloom! The beautiful hardwood and veneers used for this project has been sourced and prepared from a sustainable woodyard. The course begins by explaining how to stay safe while using our professional and powerful woodworking machines. Marcin will talk you through the materials and tools you will be using and let you practice before beginning the project. We have created a cutting list so that each person can learn how to process the wood and begin making very quickly. If you hanker to use some big machines and learn how to use jigs and to work accurately from plans, this is a great course for you. **Steps to making your own Treasure Box:** 1. Student introductions, inspirations and knowledge. 2. Introduction to the project. 3. Health and Safety. 4. Understanding the materials and tools we will be using in this course (wood technology, proper usage of the tools, jigs). 5. Practice on how to use the tools and jigs in the workshop. 6. Cutting list. 7. Making. Marcin says: ‘I will approach the sessions with a solid introduction not only to Health and Safety but to give an understanding of materials and tools. I believe it’s important to understand the nature of different types of wood and how it reacts (i.e. depending on variety, cut or thickness) when handling it, glueing or using different tools. There will be a great focus on how to use tools and machinery in the correct way for best results. We will be starting from technical drawing explanation and introduction to the material and the design itself. I will love to know people’s backgrounds before we start the session so everyone will feel more comfortable and confident to work as a team. I will have prepared a cutting list to make things easier and so we can start making (and having fun) as soon as possible. I would like to make the sessions inclusive and provide a safe space for everyone. I always take people’s abilities into account and endeavour to be there for students that want to share their struggles in order to make the making experience something they can enjoy.’

You don't have to have any stage experience - only the love (suppressed or expressed) of reading out loud; and an interest in joining a friendly group of drama buddies, over a drink and some fun, poignant, poetic, expressive and interactive thoughts, against the beautiful backdrop of the cosy and private downstairs at Megan's. I will select the play a few days before the meet-up, according to how many members we have, confirmed, making sure that everyone gets to take part. We play in a supportive, social environment, so whether you’re sporty, casually active, or just up for trying something new, you’ll fit right in Rules 📅 1. League Format & Schedule Game Duration • Each match is 50 minutes long, made up of 4 × 10-minute innings per team. An innings also ends if all batters are out before time expires. Punctuality • Matches must start at the scheduled time 👥 2. Teams & Players Team Size • Minimum 6 players, maximum 10 players on the field. Gender Mix • In mixed teams, no more than 5 male players on the field at once (if you choose to enforce a gender balance rule). Substitutions • Subs can be made only at half-time between innings. Registration & Waivers • All players must sign a waiver before playing in their their match. ⚾ 3. Gameplay Rules Bowling • Bowling must be underarm. • A good ball must reach between the batter’s shoulders and knees as it crosses the batting line. No-Balls • A ball is a no-ball if it bounces before the batting line or is outside the allowed height range. • On no-balls, batters may run but cannot be caught out. Batting • Batters must run after third strike. • They must run after hitting or missing a good ball (unless a no-ball is called). Running the Bases • Run around posts 1 through 4 in order. • All play stops when the bowler holds the ball (dead ball). ❌ 4. Ways a Batter Can Be Out A batter is out if they: • Are caught on a good ball. • Are stumped at a base before reaching it. • Run to a base that’s already been stumped. • Interfere deliberately with the play or act dangerously. • Are overtaken by a following batter. • Slide to make ground instead of running (no sliding). Once out, batters must move away from the playing area. 🧮 5. Scoring Points (Rounders) are awarded as follows: • 1 rounder — reach the 4th post on a good ball or no-ball. • ½ rounder — reach the 4th post without hitting the ball. • ½ rounder — reach 2nd post after hitting the ball (but stop before 4th). • ½ rounder penalty — for obstruction by the fielding team or three consecutive no-balls. • 1 rounder — for reaching 4th post on a backward hit (stay at 1st base until the ball returns forward). The team with the most rounders wins. In ties you can decide by total full rounders scored. 🧑‍⚖️ 6. Conduct & Sportsmanship • Rounders is self-umpired — players are expected to call fair plays and respect opponents. • Dissent, abusive language, or misconduct can lead to warnings, suspensions, or ejection from the league. • Any playing conditions that are unsafe (e.g., poor light, dangerous ground) should stop play immediately. 🧰 7. Hoover Dam Hike
Join us for one of our favorite hikes this Tuesday (4/21/26) at 6:30 pm as we hike the Hoover Dam Scenic Trail, starting at the west end of the dam. This hike includes some paved paths/roads along with some dirt trails, with a few beautiful views of the reservoir. Join us for this 2 mile hike, finding us in the parking lot at the corner of Sunbury and Smoke Burr.
