This excursion offers a unique combination of a hike to the castle ruins surrounded by green vegetation, swimming in the reservoir, and a kayak trip through the Jucar Gorge, which you will take home with you as an unforgettable experience.
The hike (1.6 km) from the parking lot to the Castillo de Chirel castle ruins covers 620 meters of elevation and takes about 50 minutes one way.
Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a landscape that is ideal as a backdrop for numerous photo opportunities. The panoramic view of the valley gives you an immediate taste of the upcoming kayak trip through the canyon. The castle of "Chirel" was once under Muslim rule and stands on a hill flanked by two gorges of the Júcar River.
After a 30-minute breakfast break, we walk back along the trail from the fortress to the parking lot and board the air-conditioned van, which drops us off at the boat dock of the Cofrentes reservoir.
There, kayaks await us, with which we will explore the crystal-clear light blue waters with their tributaries and experience the surroundings not only from above but also from the water. After you have familiarized yourself with the equipment (kayak, oars, life jackets, etc.) and received a safety briefing, we will paddle with you along the winding curves of the spectacular "Canyones de Jucar." The route of about 10 kilometers leads through calm waters and is suitable for both advanced paddlers and beginners with no previous experience. During the approximately 2.5-hour excursion, we will take plenty of photo breaks so that you can capture all the motifs with your loved ones. Passing valleys and forests, the route winds along steep cliffs and rocks, which provide us with a dreamlike backdrop for more photos until we arrive at the "Embalse Cortes II."
At this point, there is a swimming spot where we will take a break of about 30 minutes, with the option to go into the water and cool off before boarding the minibus that will take us back to the meeting point in Valencia.
