WHITE LIES BLACK LIES: English Philosophical Discussion
Detalles
"White lies, black lies." All Cretans are liars famously stated the Cretan Epimenides, creating his famous paradox. Turns out: it's not only the Cretans, who can be a bit dishonest. In Liu Cixin's Three Body Problem, our deceitfulness even plays an extraordinary role in saving humanity. Lying is part of what makes us human.
But lies are a tricky beast: as our key strength is collaboration and communication, a deluge of lies poisons a community. They erode trust. That's how disinformation works, flood the zone with shit. The more lies, the less you will be able to believe.
But equally: talking truth all the time will not make you very popular as well. Our little lies grease the harsh friction of the daily grind. And of course we needed the British (perfidious Albion, no surprise), to create Would I Lie to You: a TV show*,* which demonstrates that being lied to can be hilarious, too.
Whom do we lie to, what do we lie for, which lies are good, which lies are destructive and is it only about the intent, what makes lies so dangerous? Let's find out.
After a short intro we'll dive into our discussion.
