Sobre nosotros

Drawing Brooklyn is a community of over 5000 members who love to draw. It is FREE to become a member of this group. This group is a part of The Drawing New York community.

Drawing Brooklyn helps people make "real and tangible progress" with their drawings, whether they are absolute beginners, intermediate sketchers, or professional artists.

We meet several times a week to draw from a live model. We have both instructed and uninstructed classes.

Drawing Brooklyn hosts full-day workshops with exceptional drawing and painting teachers, presenting artist demonstrations and drawing competitions.

Drawing Brooklyn also creates original content for museums and cultural institutions in New York City, including The Morgan Library, The Museum of the City of New York, and The Museum of Arts and Design.

We hope this group provides a place to practice your drawing and to learn about exciting drawing sessions and exhibitions throughout New York.

Artist and organizer Simon Levenson teaches oil painting at The Art Students League and is a drawing instructor at, The Morgan Library and Museum, The Museum of The City of New York and The National Arts Club. You can learn more about him at his website.

    Master Copy Painting Class: Sargent

    Master Copy Painting Class: Sargent

Among the pantheon of historical portrait painters, few are more notable than John Singer Sargent. He innovated an effortless and beautiful style of portraiture that still sets the standard for portrait artists today, and in this class we’re going to explore his technique. Although Sargent’s portraits appear loose and slapdash, they were meticulously refined over many layers of direct painting and completed with a final veneer of well chosen accent strokes. The painting we’ll be studying is Sargent’s incredible portrait of Elizabeth Chanler from the National Portrait Gallery. We will cover his first marks with charcoal, to his palette and the first layer of form with the features omitted, followed by how to refine each feature, and finish with the final thick highlight strokes.

    Week 1: The Drawing
    Week 2: The Mannequin Head
    Week 3: Refining the Eyes
    Week 4: Finishing the Portrait

Come to Collage Night hosted by Bianca Dunn with Drawing America at the National Arts Club!

Collage Night is a creativity-boosting workshop where people can gather and express themselves through collage! Everyone is welcome and no art experience is necessary to participate in the class.

In this smaller workshop, you will receive a brief overview of collage history, learn about collage techniques, and receive an assignment to work on during most of the class. At the end of class, we’ll regroup to look at everyone’s pieces and have a chance to dive deeper into the work through discussion.

All materials will be provided (scissors, glue, magazines, paper, etc.), but you are also highly encouraged bring any other materials you want to work with. Anything can be collage material if you want it to be!

There is no pressure & no judgement, as each person’s collage style brings something different to the table. Let’s work with our hands, use our brains differently, learn about collage, and maybe find some healing and inspiration through the process!
