Gopher Tortoises in the Wild
McDuffie Public Fishing Area, 4695 Fish Hatchery Rd, Dearing, GA 30808, Dearing, GA, US20 June, 2026, 9:30am, Gopher Tortoises in the Wild walk. 1-3 miles. McDuffie Public Fishing Area is a 570 acre site containing not only fishing ponds but hiking trails through longleaf pines and sandy soil. Within this unique habitat are endangered gopher tortoises. Join us as Dr Donna Ware walks us through this upland habitat searching for gopher tortoises. Dr Ware will talk about their habitat needs and environmental as well as human problems they encounter. Bring water, bug spray, a hat, and good walking shoes. We will meet at the Picnic pavilion on the right in the McDuffie Public Fishing Area, 4695 Fish Hatchery Road, Dearing GA .
