Welcome to the London Cultureseekers Group!
If you're interested in exploring London's history & culture with other like minded people, then this is the only group you need to join! We are London's largest & most active cultural and history group!

'From Navigators to Necropolis - The Other Side of Highgate' Guided Walk
Archway Tube Station (outside the station - Junction Road exit), Junction Road, London, GBCome along on Sunday 19th July for a Blue Badge Guided Walk around Highgate!
Blue Badge Guides know London better than anyone. They have trained intensively for two years and passed the highest Tourist Guiding qualification in the UK.
About the walk
On this tour we discover the area of Highgate between Archway and Parliament Hill.We start with the legend of Dick Whittington, not just a pantomime character but a real man who became Lord Mayor of the City of London 4 times.
Whittington was a great reformer whose name was given to the local hospital and we will learn the history of the hospital and the nearby Victorian workhouse infirmary.Discover the story of Irish Immigration and the “navvys” who gave their name to Archway’s new square. Moving away from the busy area around the square we will see the landmark mid 20th century housing estate known as Highgate New Town, an enclave of attractive Victorian Gothic houses built on the estate of England’s richest woman after Queen Victoria, housing built for single working women and the famous Highgate cemetery (exterior only).
We finish near to beautiful Parliament Hill in an area with many cafés and restaurants.
The walk is a private walk for the group, we will be guided by Blue Badge guide Diane Burstein and Ellika McAuley.

Day trip by train - to historic Ely!
King's Cross Railway Station (on the concourse - outside the ticket office), King's Cross, London, al, GBCome along on Saturday 25th July for a day trip by train to historic Ely!
About the city
Ely is a cathedral city, set in the Fens, about 14 miles north east of Cambridge. An abbey was built here in AD 673 and in 1083 the current cathedral was built (with modifications between 1322-28 when the octagon was built). The cathedral is one of England's most beautiful and largest. It is known locally as the 'ship of the fens'.Ely's most famous historical resident was Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658), who was Lord Protector after the English Civil War when Britain was a republic (1649-1660). He started out as a local tax collector, or 'Farmer of the Tithes', for the local parishes. It was up to Cromwell to ensure that all the local taxes - including money, wheat and straw - were delivered to the Dean of the Cathedral. He was permitted to keep any excess collected and soon became a man of property and quite considerable local status. His house still stands, which is now a museum.
