What's New in Micronaut 5
Micronaut 5 represents a significant evolution of the Micronaut ecosystem, combining a refresh of its components with improvements focused on performance, productivity, and cloud-native development.
In this session, Graeme Rocher will review the key new features in Micronaut Framework 5.0 and 5.1, and demonstrate how to take advantage of them in modern JVM applications.
The talk will cover Micronaut's upgrade to Java 25, Kotlin 2.3, and Groovy 5, along with the adoption of GraalVM 25, improvements to the IoC container and build infrastructure, stable HTTP/3 support, new configuration and configuration import capabilities, JSpecify nullability annotations, and programmatic APIs for retries and circuit breakers.
We will also look at features that are particularly relevant to modern application development: compile-time generation of serializers and deserializers, Jackson 3, new Micronaut Data capabilities such as geospatial support and SQL vector types, improved integration with Kubernetes and major cloud providers, as well as the evolution of AI integrations with Micronaut MCP and LangChain4j.
With Micronaut 5.1, the platform expands these capabilities even further with Open DI 1.0, Core improvements, SQLite and value-based ETags in Micronaut Data, MyBatis integration, new Kafka features for non-blocking retries, and advances in AI, storage, security, observability, and APIs.
The session is aimed at Java developers and teams who want to understand what Micronaut 5 brings to the table, what has changed compared to previous versions, and how these new features can translate into more efficient, maintainable, and cloud-ready applications.
Graeme Rocher
Graeme Rocher is an Architect at Oracle and one of the founders of the open-source Micronaut project. He is also the creator of Grails, one of the best-known projects in the Groovy ecosystem.
He currently leads Oracle's contributions to Micronaut and works on key projects such as Micronaut Core, Micronaut Data, Micronaut Serialization, and Micronaut Oracle Cloud.
He is a Java Champion and received the Oracle Groundbreaker Award in 2018 for his work in open source.
