New York Coworking Friends is a community of remote workers who meet at different coworking spaces, cafes, and other third spaces throughout the city for social coworking sessions to make remote work more fun. Join our Whatsapp community to find people when you arrive, ask any questions, stay updated about the meetup or join coworking sessions or socials organized by members on other days. Find us on Instagram, Meetup, and luma.

Join us in meeting at Sour Mouse's evening lecture series, PHDs and Pints! We'll meet up a little beforehand to hang out, chat, and socialize a bit before the lecture. Join the Whatsapp chat to make sure you find our group.

This is not a dry academic talk. Expect storytelling, humor, surprising insights, and plenty of “wait… that’s actually true” moments.

How AI Sees Cancer: From Microscope to Machine
What if a computer could look at a tiny piece of tissue and find patterns in cancer that the human eye might miss?

For the next PHDs & Pints, we're going inside one of the most fascinating applications of artificial intelligence: how AI is changing the way we study, detect, and understand cancer.

Join Dr. Akash Parvatikar, Director of Artificial Intelligence at Biobase and PhD in Computational Biology, for a look at the rapidly evolving world of digital pathology — where traditional microscope slides are transformed into massive digital images that can be analyzed using machine learning.

Akash has spent his career at the intersection of AI, biology, and pathology. His research has included developing explainable AI systems for challenging breast cancer diagnoses and studying why even trained pathologists can sometimes interpret the same tissue differently. Today, he works on AI-driven biological data platforms designed to help researchers make sense of increasingly complex biomedical data.

We'll explore questions like: What does AI actually "see" when it looks at cancer? Can a machine recognize patterns a doctor might miss? Why can two pathologists look at the same tissue and reach different conclusions? Could AI help make diagnoses more consistent? And where should we not trust AI with our health?

We'll also look at how scientists are teaching machines to analyze millions of cells, recognize biomarkers and turn traditional pathology slides into entirely new sources of data — while confronting a critical problem: if an AI reaches a conclusion, doctors need to understand why.

Please also RSVP here on eventbrite to reserve your spot.
