🌅 Trip Description
We’ve designed this holiday to show you the greatest walks that this area has to offer as well as some of its world famous sights. The Amalfi Coast is dotted with seaside towns rich in history and boasts a timeless beauty interspersed with a lively, Italian buzz and vibrancy. A place you can really explore nature one minute in the remote mountains and feel really alive by the sea a short while later.

Our hikes take us along ancient paths and mule tracks where in many places time has stood still. We’ve picked some great hikes that showcase this landscape and offer some awe inspiring views. We never quite leave the coastal views and the ever present sparkling turquoise sea below, reminding us just how high up these mountains are.

The Amalfi Coast is a steep coastline where villages cling to steep rocky hillsides defying logic and almost gravity, with houses coloured in gentle pastel shades.

📅 Itinerary

Friday – Arrival & Transfer to the Guest House
There is a single fixed time complimentary transfer from the airport to our accommodation. On arrival, there will be time to settle in, explore the area and visit the local village. In the evening, we will enjoy a relaxed dinner and have the opportunity to get to know each other in our beautiful rural, mountainous surroundings. Our guest house is set outside the village a 10 to 15 minute walk away, so we escape the noise and stay in a more tranquil setting. The Guest House has an unheated swimming pool.

Saturday
• Hike: Bomerano circular
• Distance: 10km (6 miles)
• Grading: Intermediate, one tough uphill, rocky terrain in places
• Ascent: 470m

Today we have a lovely circular hike from our guest house. We take in the summit of Monte Tre Calli (1122m high) from which we can get some stunning and far reaching views of the Peninsula as well as the mountain villages near where we are staying. A short but perfect hike to get to know the area and get our bearings.

After the hike, you'll have free time to explore the charming village of Bomerano or unwind by our private pool.

There’s also optional extra (at cost) local experiences available:
• 🍋 Visit a small family owned Limoncello factory. See how it’s made and sample different varieties (approx 5 Euros)
• 🍝 Hands-on Italian cooking class on a local farm. Make and then eat fresh pasta, mozzarella & tiramisu, with wine (approx 45 Euros)

Sunday
• Hike: Bomerano to Amalfi via Valle delle Ferriere Park
• Distance: Approx 16km (10 miles)
• Grading: Intermediate, some rough and uneven tracks
• Ascent: 480m
• Descent: 1100m

Another hike where we start from the guest house, we have some road walking at the start before departing into the dense wooded mountains on a breath taking trail that provides ever more tempting views of the lush wooded valleys and coastline that we will be exploring. With waterfalls, ancient ruins, mountain rivers and dreamy views this is quite a spectacular day of hiking. To finish it off we hike past scented lemon groves on a trail that delivers us to the coastal town of Amalfi which opens to the sea like a fan. We’ll have time to explore Amalfi’s historic streets and get some well deserved refreshments.

Monday - Free day

Why not take the time to yourself to relax by the guest house pool, indulge in one of Bomerano's numerous cafes or explore the surroundings? You can get a bus from Bomerano to Amalfi and then a bus or boat onto most locations on the Amalfi Coast.

Or you can visit Ravello - a small town considered to be one of the most romantic and beautiful places in southern Italy. Settled on steep terraced slopes high above sea level, this lovely town inspires with memorable views high above the coast below.

Should you desire a more exotic experience, you can visit the island of Capri. Capri is one of Italy’s most stunning islands, a favourite for Roman Emperors several of whom built their villas here.

There is no guide for today, it is a free day and whatever option you choose is self guided, the guide can advise on options and logistics.

Tuesday - Day trip to Vesuvius and Pompeii

Vesuvius is a world renowned volcano that dramatically brought an end to the Roman town of Pompeii in its great eruption of 79 AD. Its fertile soil helps provide some of the great tasting local tomatoes and grapes for the local wines.

Pompeii is an experience to visit, the ruins being mesmerising, fascinating and quite poignant. It’s surprisingly well preserved for a 2000 year old town and is huge, a true time capsule from the days when the Roman Empire ruled much of the world as you walk around this Roman town. Pompeii offers a fascinating glimpse into the everyday life of the ancient Roman world including bakeries, brothels, baths and numerous cobbled streets. You can explore this site either by yourself or join the private organised tour we arrange with our local guide.

Visiting Vesuvius is subject to weather conditions and also tickets being released to the public for sale, they are not always available, if they are not available for our trip dates we will have a short walk on Vesuvius to a historic lava flow instead of visiting the summit.

Wednesday
• Hike: The famous "Sentiero degli dei" (Path of the Gods)
• Distance: 7km (5 miles). Various options to extend, you can decide on the day
• Grading: Intermediate
• Ascent: 350m for the standard route

We’re saving this epic hike until our last full day. We hike a winding trail that delicately hugs the rugged mountains as it follows their twists and turns. We get the most dramatic and lofty views of the trip as for much of the hike we can look down to the sea far below. We pass ancient houses, vineyards, woodland and a goat farm.

We visit Positano, considered to be the most picturesque and photogenic town on the coastline. Steeply stacked houses literally tumble down the mountain towards the sea dotted with the most diverse range of pastel colours creating quite a captivating setting. We explore the town losing ourselves in a maze of alleys, a visit to the beach and no doubt a good cafe too are on the cards. You can also explore some very chic boutique shops.

Today offers several route options. The guide will hike the full Path of the Gods, continue down to Positano, and then return the same way to the guesthouse. You can choose to shorten the route at various points, with options including a coastal boat ride or a bus journey. On the day, you can decide whether to take the public bus into Positano or extend the hike and walk down the roughly 1,700 steps.

Thursday – Departure
After breakfast, we head to the airport.
• If you’d like to stay on, Rome is just 1 hour 15 minutes away by high-speed train from Naples, with regular flights back to London.
• After the airport we have a 2nd complimentary stop at Naples central train station.
• You can extend your stay in Naples to explore its museums, cafés and neighbourhoods.

Soon we pass through Shoreham’s unique quarter of grounded houseboats, transformed into eccentric and artistic homes, before following the river towards Shoreham Airport. • Pass by Ightham Mote, a Grade I listed moated medieval manor dating from c.1320

    🥾 Hike Description
Our journey begins on the Greensand Way, one of the South East’s finest long-distance trails, before we enter the sweeping 1,000-acre Knole Deer Park. Dating from the reign of Henry VIII, it remains one of the last surviving Tudor deer parks in the UK. With herds of fallow and sika deer roaming freely, it offers a magical glimpse into a medieval landscape. It was here that the Beatles filmed promotional videos for Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever — later recognised by MoMA in New York as two of the most influential music videos of the 1960s.

At the heart of the park stands Knole House, an immense stately home built in 1486, remarkably preserved with its 365 rooms and 52 staircases. Once owned by Henry VIII, it has remained one of England’s grandest houses and provides a striking backdrop to the surrounding deer park.

Our route continues through rolling Kent countryside to Ightham Mote, a moated medieval manor house dating back to the early 14th century. Described by historian David Starkey as “one of the most beautiful and interesting of English country houses,” its story spans medieval knights, Tudor courtiers and royal connections.

We finish after a day immersed in timeless Kentish landscapes, history and heritage.

    • Discover the tranquil hidden gem of Balcombe Lake

    🥾 Hike Description
Our hike begins from the rural station of Balcombe, leading us straight into the rolling fields and wooded trails of West Sussex. The highlight comes early as we pass under the spectacular Ouse Valley Viaduct, often described as the most beautiful viaduct in England. Built in 1841 at a cost of £38,500, its 37 arches and 11 million imported bricks create a striking and photogenic landmark — a perfect stop for photos beneath its “never-ending” symmetry.

From here, our route continues through gentle countryside to the wide expanse of Ardingly Reservoir, which holds an incredible 5 billion litres of fresh water. Its banks are home to a wide variety of birdlife, and we pause here for refreshments, with the chance to grab an ice cream or hot drink.

The trail then leads us onwards through peaceful woodland paths and open fields, reaching the grounds of Wakehurst Place, a 16th-century mansion and today the most visited National Trust property in the country. Nearby sits the world-famous Millennium Seedbank, which holds 1.9 billion seeds from more than 75,000 species — the largest wild plant seed collection on Earth.

We complete the circuit by returning through more wooded tracks to Balcombe Lake, a small and picturesque hidden gem nestled among the trees. This makes for a peaceful finale to a hike that combines Victorian engineering, rural beauty, and world-leading conservation.

    🥾 Hike Description
Our journey begins in the Georgian market town of Farnham, with its history spanning nearly 1,000 years. From here we follow woodland trails to Mother Ludlam’s Cave, once said to be the home of the White Witch of Waverley. Passing the grand Moor Park House, we reach the evocative ruins of Waverley Abbey, England’s first Cistercian monastery founded in 1128, and the nearby Waverley Abbey House, set beside a tranquil lake.

The trail then brings us to Tilford village, a picture-perfect English setting with a cricket pitch, riverside pub, and two medieval stone bridges across the River Wey. Continuing on, we pass an 800-year-old oak tree of remarkable size and a nearby farm where pigs — and often piglets — can be seen in the fields.

Next we enter the Bourne Woods, an enchanting mix of heathland and coniferous forest. Here we actually pass through specific filming locations used in Gladiator, Robin Hood, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, War Horse and more than 20 other films. Walking these paths, you’ll stand where legendary battle scenes and cinematic moments were filmed.

We return to Farnham to complete the circuit, finishing a hike rich in history, folklore and cinematic scenery — a trail through time that captures the very best of Surrey’s countryside.
