Full Moon Picnic Sat May 30, 8:30-10:30 PM, Pont des Arts
Detalles
Ahoy there,
Next full moon picnic will be Saturday May 30 from 8:30 - 10:30 P.M. Moonrise will be around 10:10 P.M. Sunset around 9:40 PM.
I may not make it back from my tree house in time but never fear, Catherine and Charles will be there to welcome you.
The Pont des Arts is undergoing renovations for the botched renovation 3 years ago that used a poor design to fasten the wood planks. Most of the bridge will remain open full width during the work. We will meet by one of the benches in the open section, which is currently towards the Left Bank side of the bridge. Hard to predict how work will advance over the next week. So finding us may involve a little bit of treasure hunt adventure. You’re welcome! In the unlikely event we will assemble below on the quai on the Right Bank side.
May is known by American Indians for the Full Flower Moon because of the wide appearance of flowers during this month. It's also known as Full Corn Planting Moon (for obvious reasons) and as the Milk Moon.
Bob, I swear you're just copy pasting that from your last email for our previous Full Moon Picnic.
Yes, that’s because this is the second full moon of the same month, which only happens once in a blue moon. 🤣

Just go ahead and scroll to the answer before your stomach turns queasy.
PUZZLER ANSWER: Our galaxy, the Milky Way has become quite large feasting on other smaller galaxies. About 8 billion years ago, a study said, that a smaller dwarf galaxy was gobbled up by a young and hungry Milky Way. The study was not 8 billion years ago (that’s why the 2 commas) but 8 years ago. The dwarf galaxy was named Gaia Sausage because it was sorta kinda in the shape of a sausage according to the astronomers analyzing the data. They had been up for 2 days without eating and were definitely not vegan.

Turns out that just this month, the Milky Way gobbled up another galaxy, according to a study, 10 billion years ago. (I’m using commas the way Trump uses legal loopholes.) The poor meal this time is called the Loki galaxy, named after the Norse god of mischief. The remnants of this dwarf galaxy are hard to detect and tricky to explain because the left over stars are moving in opposite directions. Confusing and mischievous.

In this eat or be eaten universe galaxies are cannibalizing each other. So far the Milky Way has eaten its way to an expanding belt-line.
Ciao for niao,
Captain Bob
