Scientific Paper Reading Club: Perturbation-Conditioned Diffusion Models
This is part of the scientific paper reading club.
This Saturday, we will be diving into a fascinating new approach to AI in healthcare and drug discovery. We will be discussing the paper "Reading the Cell, Designing the Cure: Perturbation-Conditioned Molecular Diffusion for Function-Oriented Drug Design".
- Paper (arXiv): https://arxiv.org/abs/2605.15243
- Official GitHub Repository: https://github.com/EdwardCurry/CURE_TBDD
What to expect:
Our presenter, Pavel, is currently working in this field and will be sharing some of his personal thoughts and insights on the topic. He has prepared a short, accessible summary of the paper that requires almost no background in biology, so it will be easy to follow for everyone!
We will explore how the authors use a framework called CURE to rethink drug design. Instead of the traditional "lock-and-key" method that requires knowing the exact 3D protein structures, this model treats drug design as an inverse generation problem—using a diffusion model to generate molecules based purely on the functional cellular state changes (transcriptomic signatures) they need to induce.
