For the month of June, hoping it won't be too horribly hot yet, we're going to visit the historic town of Nocona TX, known as the Leather Capital of the Southwest. There is a lot of history here, where Fenoglio, Nocona, and Justin boots originated, as well as Nokona American Ballgloves.
If you want to carpool/caravan from Rowlett, meet at the Rowlett DART Station parking lot in the area near the corner of Martin and Industrial Streets at 8:30 am. If you want to meet in Nocona, we will meet at 319 Clay St. (FM 103) in Nocona at about 10:30 am. There is street parking plus what appears to be a parking lot at the corner of this building at W. Walnut.
We will shoot for about an hour and a half, then go have lunch about noon at Red River Pizzeria located at 223 Clay Street. Has good reviews, is convenient and in a cool looking building, and the menu isn't limited to pizza only.
After lunch, there are a few options we can investigate. We can shoot some more around town if you didn't shoot all you wanted and then head over to the Trails N' Tails Museum at 1522 E. Hwy 82. Although I don't typically care for museums, this one looks fairly interesting and is only $5 for seniors (60+), $10 adults, free for retired military so I think it's probably worth a stop while there. I can't imagine spending more than an hour here. Another option instead of, or in addition to, is to head to the Nocona Beer & Brewery in the old Nocona Factory at 915 US 82 and take some photos of the historic building and maybe go in and grab something to drink before heading home. Or we can stop here, take outside photos, then head to the museum before heading home. We can decide what we want to do after lunch depending on how we feel.
Now, for some requests and warnings:
1. Weather is always a factor so there is always the possibility of a last minute cancellation!
2. Please don't sign up unless you intend to go, and, if you find you aren't able to go after signing up, please change your RSVP so we aren't waiting for you.
3. Please sign up if you are going so that we know to expect and wait for you.
4. Please comment whether you will meet in Rowlett or in Nocona so we know where to look for you.
5. Please comment as to whether you need a ride or can provide a ride so we can try and accommodate everyone.
6. Please have the Meetup app on your phone as that is where any communications will be posted during the walk to alert everyone of any changes, notifications, or updates, or you can update you are running late, where to find you, etc.
Hope this sounds like a good destination and look forward to seeing everybody!
