Gray Wolf | Olympic National Park
Ash Way Park & Ride,, 16327 Ash Way, Lynnwood, WA 98037,, Lynwood, WA, USOlympic National Park is the most diverse National Park in America — glaciated peaks, lowland forests, wild rivers, temperate rain forests, alpine lakes, hundreds of miles of rugged coastline, and incredible wildlife — and oh, all of it just a stone’s throw from Seattle! Join us for this Olympic River Valley adventure on Saturday, April 18.
Journey Into the Wild Heart of the Gray Wolf
This hike begins at the quiet Slab Camp Trailhead, as the trail drops into a moss‑draped world of old‑growth fir, cedar, and hemlock trees. The descent feels like entering a hidden corridor — cool, green, and hushed. The trail winds steadily downward until the hush of the woods gives way to the unmistakable rush of the Gray Wolf River — a clear, fast, mountain stream.Crossing the bridge brings us into the heart of this classic Olympic river valley, where the trail winds upstream beside clear pools, boulder gardens, and giant trees furred in thick moss - the whole valley steeped in ancient silence. Everything here feels untouched, as if the forest has been growing in the same rhythm for centuries. Continuing onto the Upper Gray Wolf River Trail deepens that sense of stepping into a land that time forgot. The valley narrows, the forest grows wilder, and the river becomes a constant, living presence. A remote, quiet, green world that feels far removed from the modern one.
This is a landscape shaped by water and time — a long, glacially carved corridor where the river has spent millennia cutting its way toward the ocean. After lingering in this remote pocket of the Olympics, we will retrace our steps through this forgotten landscape — following the river's music back toward the bridge, the climb out of the valley, and back to the quiet trailhead tucked in the forest.
