The performance explores both von Steuben’s military legacy and his identity as a gay man navigating the complexities of 18th-century society, tracing his journey from Prussia to the American Revolution, where he helped transform the Continental Army into a disciplined force.
“Building on this powerful exploration of history and identity, the evening transitions into a dynamic panel discussion featuring author Josh Trujillo and illustrator Levi Hastings, the creative team behind Washington’s Gay General. This compelling graphic novel reexamines the life of Baron von Steuben, blending historical research with vivid, contemporary storytelling. Each attendee will receive a complimentary copy of the book and will have the opportunity to meet the authors during a signing.
