The Monterey Bay Area Hiking Group is for people who enjoy hiking, being outdoors and socializing. We explore many areas throughout the Monterey Peninsula, BigSur/ Ventana Wilderness, and Santa Cruz Mountains. On occasion, we will offer events out of the area. Hikes are generally for most levels; from 4 mile hikes with minimal elevation gain to 20 mile expeditions with significant elevation gain. Hikes may be scheduled on any day of the week and usually last between 3-5 hours. For those interested in multi-day activities, there will be some car camping or backpacking trips.
Please be advised that we are not a walking group and therefore do not expect to see many short hikes (less than 3 miles) over level terrain . Please match the hike to your skill level.
Please join us for our next hike!

Ver todo- Pfeiffer Big Sur BioBlitz! with CA State ParksPfeiffer Big Sur State Park, Big Sur, CA
Join park staff and volunteers for a BioBlitz and Weed Bash at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park!
To celebrate California Biodiversity Day, we'll be counting species and pulling weeds as we walk the trails of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park!
BioBlitz: Support community science! We'll split into small groups and each cover a different part of the park. As we walk the trails, we'll identify and log the different species that we see. Learn how to use the "iNaturalist" app on your smartphone to identify species and record biodiversity. Parks staff will teach you everything you need to know about using iNaturalist and participating in a BioBlitz. Please download the app ahead of time, as cellular reception is limited and wi-fi will not be available. Walks will be about 2.5 hours long at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops along the way. Each group will be guided by Parks Staff. Mileage and routes will vary between groups.
Weed Bash: Support efforts to promote biodiversity by removing selected weeds! Non-native, invasive plants reduce biodiversity by crowding out the native plants that form the basis of our local ecosystem. As we walk the trails, we'll be pulling out some of the invasive weeds that use the trail system to spread around the park.
Logistics: Meet at Day Use Area #1 Parking Lot at 9am. Please bring a device with the iNaturalist app downloaded ahead of time.Useful Links:
