On Sunday 19th April we shall have a walk in the Ward River Valley to Swords Castle. **Meeting Location** Swords Express bus stop on Eden Quay which is next to stop 135351 and Meaghers Pub. From O'Connell St head towards the River Liffey and when you get to the river, turn left. The bus stop is a short distance on the left hand side. The Swords Express bus takes Leap Cards (please ensure you have enough credit) and is scheduled to depart at 10:45. If it's easier for you to catch a different bus to the walk's starting point then please let the organisers know. **Route Description** From the meeting point on Eden Quay we will take the Swords Express bus to near the Windmill Lands area of Swords from there we walk through the park and along the Ward River into Swords itself to see the historic round tower of St Columba's Church, the holy well and the lovely Swords Castle. The distance is approximately 5km. There will be time to look round the castle which is free to visit. After maybe a cup of tea or a pint of beer, we will take the bus back into Dublin. Or alternatively if people wish, we could have a further walk to Malahide Station via the lovely Malahide Estuary. This is approximately a further 5.5km. Some paths can be a little muddy, but the chosen route should avoid the worst sections. If it's dry and warm enough, we'll probably have a picnic in the park. There are no shops on the walk, but there are many shops, cafés and pubs in Swords itself. \*\*\* If you wish to wander off during a break then it's probably OK but please agree with the organisers a time you'll return so we're not waiting for you \*\*\* We hope to see you there! Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Free Communal Garden Class Series GROWING MUSHROOMS In this class, we will discuss how to raise mushrooms on logs outdoors as a way to raise food in parts of your yard that are usually too shady to grow vegetables or other crops. We will discuss what mushroom species can be cultivated, what tree species they can grow on, and demonstrate how to prepare and inoculate the logs. By following these steps, you can have your own bountiful mushroom harvest! Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above. There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change. The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM.
