This session: General information: Sue Schneider will guide you through this meditative drawing art form. Step-by-step, you will learn the basic process for creating a small, abstract design using repetitive pattern skills. Zentangle is easy, relaxing and stress-free; perfect for "these challenging times". FIRST-TIMERS: If you are brand new to Zentangle, I'm happy to send you my Beginner's Guide, that will fill you in on background, basic techniques and some starter patterns. Just email me at sue.schneider.artist@gmail.com with "Beginner's Guide Request" in the subject line. Our lesson will begin promptly at noon. The lesson will be about 75-90 minutes. Sue will demonstrate patterns and techniques for you to follow along. During the last few minutes we'll share our creations and wrap-up. There are 2 sessions each month, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays. At each session we'll follow the basic Zentangle method and explore a variety of themes and topics, often with new pattern introductions and techniques beyond the basics (e.g., shading, color, non-abstract, use of tinted papers, etc.) SUPPLIES NEEDED: Please provide a standard pencil, a fine tipped black marker, and paper on which to draw. Optional: Tortillion (blending stub), colored pencils, white and red fine tipped markers/pens. Pen recommendations: Sakura Pigma Micron 01; Uniball Vision Micro; Sharpie Fine (look for "**no-bleed**" on the package, solid black barrel). Paper: We usually work on a 3.5" square paper (called a "tile"). Good quality papers that work well are Strathmore Vellum Bristol, 95# or 140# water color paper, a "Mixed Media" sketchbook, 65# card stock. Recently I have often used a 4x6" blank index card. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
