This month the Hong Kong Gay Men's Chorus will join our FinS gathering and perform a few songs to preview their June concert! Come and socialize with old friends and make new connections. ⏱️Tuesday, 19 May, 7-10pm 📍Soho House, 33 Des Voeux Road West, Sai Ying Pun 🏆Free admission. Lucky Draw for those who drop in business cards. You do not have to be in a "suit. Casual is fantastic too. Fruits in Suits (FinS) has been connecting members of the LGBTQ+ community since 2004.

We are writers of all levels – beginners to published. And we meet at STARBUCK at IFC (P2 Shop2097-2098, International Finance Centre), Central for fun writing and sharing sessions! We all write a one-sentence prompt, then each select one at random. We write something based on the prompt for 45 minutes, after which, we share our work with each other and discuss as desired. Of course, sharing is optional but encouraged. (Feedback is always polite and respectful.) Alternatively, you can bring your own project(s) to work on in the company of fellow writers (published and yet-to-be published). You can share your project(s), too, if you want. Local fishermen invited the image of the deity Pak Tai to the island; parading it through the streets was believed to drive away evil spirits. Villagers dressed as other deities (the origin of today’s Piu Sik parade) to inspect every corner of the island and restore peace. Over time, the ritual expanded with bun towers symbolising gratitude and protection. The modern form, including the famous bun-snatching competition, has been held annually (with a brief COVID hiatus) and now coincides with Buddha’s Birthday, blending Taoist roots with broader cultural appeal. It was recognised as part of China’s national intangible cultural heritage in 2011. **Cultural Significance** Rooted in Taoist traditions, this festival began over two centuries ago as a community ritual to ward off plague and evil spirits. It has evolved into one of Hong Kong’s most vibrant heritage celebrations and is now listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. **Transportation** Easy ferry ride from Central Pier 5 to Cheung Chau (approximately 45–60 minutes). **Atmosphere** Expect lively energy and large crowds, especially on the main parade day. The island transforms into a colourful, festive hub filled with traditional performances.
