I WRITE @ Iska Café – A Cozy Silent Writing Club
Welcome to **I WRITE**, a gentle space for anyone who wants to write—quietly, freely, and without judgement.
We are a Berlin community of writers who gather together weekly to write, talk and recharge after a long week. Some of us journal, some write novels, some do academic writing, many people come without a project in mind and see where the inspiration flow takes them. This is a space to simply show up and write, a safe place to be yourself and to release all your layers onto the paper.
There’s no set topic, no feedback circle, and no pressure. Just warm people, a calm atmosphere, and time dedicated to yourself.

Hi, my name is Anastasia. I started this writing club back in May 2025. Since then, it has been hosted weekly at the Heinrich Schulz Library and is now extended to the Café as well. **For this event we will host all levels :). From A1 to C1!**

**We’ll now be meeting twice a week at Denizen House (Köpenicker Str. 40, 10179 Berlin), on** **Mondays and Wednesdays****!**

* **Wednesdays:** **levels B1 to C1**
**We work with dedicated materials tailored to each level, so everyone will have a place to practice and improve.**

**Please be aware that the moderated event starts at** **18:30****. Before this time, we are busy setting up the space. Registrations usually take place around** **18:15 / 18:20****. Participants are kindly asked** **not to arrive too far in advance** **at the house.**
**If someone arrives much earlier, Denizen may ask them to pay either for a drink (consumption) or for a** **day pass****, as the space is a co-working environment during the day.** **Please remember, our event is only happening from 18:00 to 20:00**
**How the Sprachcafé works**
**We use different materials to help participants gain confidence in German. Together with whiteboards and our volunteers, the Sprachcafé is based on** **interactive conversations** **in small groups.**
**Participation fee**
**The Sprachcafé has a** **participation fee of 5 €****, which helps cover organizational costs and** **includes one soft drink for free****.**
**Tickets can be purchased directly on the day of the event, card and cash payments are accepted.**
**As the Sprachcafé has become very popular, we now need to** **limit the number of participants****. Please understand this measure; it ensures that everyone has a comfortable space to practice.**

Originally intended to serve as a BER Airport Terminal 5 station, its connection to the airport was abandoned, and today it mostly serves as a semi-abandoned S-Bahn station.

**12:00 -** Meet in the designated spots in S-Schonefeld. We’ll assign groups for P&BP, and the photography session will kick off. As a group, you’ll have full autonomy to coordinate.
**15:00 -** We will meet back at the starting spot. We might go somewhere together afterwards to discuss the day’s photos, share photography tips, and chat casually in smaller groups.

This event is free of charge. **Regulars** can join this event regardless of their position in the queue.

A 2nd plot line is concerned with Micha’s young son Sascha, and his life in a rundown world of drugs and poverty. His fascination with the creepy, exhibitionist puppeteer Firlefanz, whose grotesque puppets enact a gay fairy tale paralleling the relationship of Stefan and Jockel. Central to the disintegration of these characters is the drug dealer Ingolf, who ‘pulls their strings’ with heroin, instead of puppet wires.

From my own experience of attending over 200 international meetups in various countries such as Germany, Japan, Australia and Thailand, I can tell you that asking for the name is a better approach.

If you really want to connect with like-minded people you should remember their name, but you don't have to remember every persons name you've talked you. Be picky about that, don't be me who can somehow remember everyones name easily.
Don't tell yourself sth. like "I'm bad at remembering names." It's all about developing the habit of asking for a name and keep the conversation going on.
Furthermore, you want to learn German or any other language. Learning the local language is crucial to connect with the locals and developing a true friendship.
This can be accomplished with immersion. My goal is to inspire you to go out of your comfort zone and improve yourself each time you join this meetup.

The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above.
There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change.
The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/).
Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers.

CMG Gives Back: Serve Brunch at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “create a better world” by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1
week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve.
