Detalles

Starting from the charming mountain village of Camarena de la Sierra, our route begins along a shaded trail following the gentle murmur of local streams and mineral-rich mountain springs. As we gain altitude, the dense Scots pine and black pine woodlands gradually thin out, giving way to the open, wind-scoured plateaus of the Sierra de Javalambre. Here, creeping sabina rastrera (savory juniper) clings to the weathered limestone slopes, adapted to withstand the harsh high-mountain climate. The steady ascent leads past traditional dry-stone shelters and silent ravines, gradually unveiling an expansive horizon over the southern Iberian mountain ranges.

The high point of our journey is the broad summit ridge of Pico Javalambre at 2,019 meters above sea level. Standing at the peak marker, you will be rewarded with sweeping vistas spanning the serrated peaks of the Valencian interior, the Serranía de Cuenca, and the rolling plains of Teruel below. After pausing to take in the vast open sky and catch our breath at the top, we trace our descent along an alternate trail loop, hiking through the ski slopes and descending back through the tranquil pine woods to conclude our circular trek in Camarena.
