Sobre nosotros
Films are a marvellous way to gain insights into life in other times and places - as well as our own. At our film club, we show movies that give us opportunities to explore the worlds of cinema to and learn about what makes the humanity tick. And we have lots of fun doing so.
We meet almost every week at the Ellen Melville Centre, offering free screenings of diverse films from around the world. Occasionally, we also attend cinema screenings of the latest films, especially during international film festivals.
Our discussions after each film are lively and thought-provoking, ensuring everyone leaves with a deeper understanding and new perspectives. All our events are free.
See you at the movies!

【Stories Without Words】Flow (Latvia/France/Belgium, 2024)
Ellen Melville Centre, 2 Freyberg Place, Auckland, NZRating: G - suitable for all ages
This April we’re screening two recently acclaimed animated films that share a particular unspoken trait!
Flow is about survival, cooperation, and the natural world.
The film follows a solitary cat whose home is destroyed by a massive flood. Forced to flee, the cat finds refuge on a small boat alongside several other animals. None of them are natural companions, but in a changing and uncertain world, they must learn to travel together.
Like Robot Dreams, this film is told without dialogue, relying entirely on visual storytelling. The animals don’t speak, but their personalities come through clearly as they navigate a mysterious, flooded landscape that hints at a world where humans may no longer be around.
What emerges is an unexpectedly moving adventure about trust, adaptation, and the fragile balance of nature.
