Sobre nosotros
This is NOT a typical, quiet figure drawing group. This is a fun, social, community group. We have weekly Tuesday night sessions, and occasional popups, workshops, and other collaborations with local organizations. It gets crowded as hell. There is inconsistent, spontaneous instruction that is generally focused on loosening up and letting go of perfectionism. There are no requirements for membership; this could be your first time touching a pencil (although that would be weird). We want you and your energy - we don’t care about your resume.
This group has a focus on socializing and getting to know other people. Come prepared to chat with strangers. Everything is always provided. We’ve got snacks but BYOB. Supplies of all manner are provided - big paper, small paper, charcoal, pencils, markers, etc. Feel free to bring your own supplies.
There is an instagram group! It’s @LifeDrawingBoston. Follow! Tag us in your work!
Getting here:
Joy St. Studios is right off the East Somerville green line stop. There is a bike path and a blue bike station steps from the entrance. There is a parking lot for your car.
If you are interested in participating in the carpool program, please get in touch with David at (240) 678-4399.

Historic Portraiture with Cas
Life Drawing Boston, 72 Joy St, Somerville, MA, USHistorical Portraiture is BACK! Honestly I’m just gonna let Cas write this one bc they go so hard.
“We're doing somethin a lil special, bringing it back to the 18th century, and I'm so ecstatic that I finally get to show off this month's model, Thee Indisputable Cathryn Philippe @philly0405 !! 🌟❤️🔥Now I would have tried to get her sooner but baby this woman is BOOKED & BUSY...She's squeezing us in between her many shows & rehearsals so you don't want to miss this one 🙂↔️🤭
Along with her being a friend/artist/educator i deeply admire and love, Cathryn has been interpreting and sharing the life of Poetical Genius Phillis Wheatley for years - the boston history scene knows how amazing she is and now you all will too.
THIS ONE IS A BIT DIFFERENT: We're still going to show and explain all the layers of clothing, but for this night we'll be delving into Wheatley's life, work, and her impact on Boston. We will have the chance to recreate the actual portrait/frontspiece of PW featured in her book, Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral (🔥), and we are going to do a whole HOUR final pose - so bring your paint! bring your brushes! bring your patience! LETS DO THIS!”
