Club RetroTorque co-founders - Charity Drive to Rosedale Abbeyeasingwold market place, YO61 3AE
A scenic 63-mile morning drive from the Georgian market town of Easingwold to Rosedale Abbey in the North York Moors via Newburgh Priory, Byland Abbey, Helmsley and Blakey Ridge.
We’ll stop at Rosedale Abbey for refreshments and a comfort break then make our way, via Chimney Bank, Nunnington Hall, Ampleforth College to The Carlton Inn, Carlton Husthwaite in time for lunch.
Discretionary donations (suggest £10 per person - or more) to Leeds Hospitals Charity will be very much appreciated. A Just Giving page will be made available shortly.Easingwold
Easingwold is a small Georgian Market Town, a hidden gem, adjacent to the North York Moors National Park and 12 miles north of York. The town has a good range of independent shops and a thriving local society. There are plenty of cafes, so you might like to arrive earlier and grab breakfast at one of them.Rosedale Abbey
Located in Rosedale, a steep valley home to the rivers Seven and Rye, Rosedale Abbey is a picture-perfect village where we will stop for 30 minutes to regroup and refresh.
There are tearooms, village store and public toilets.Chimney Bank
Chimney Bank is a hill pass that carries a minor road between Rosedale Abbey and Hutton-le-Hole. The tarmacked highway shares the title of steepest road in England (the other is Hardknott Pass in Cumbria).
The pass has an average gradient of 13%, with a maximum gradient of 1 in 3 (about 33%) and climbs 568 feet (173 m) on its 0.81-mile (1.3 km) route. It is colloquially known by cyclists as The Chain Breaker. There is an alternative, less steep, route.Timetable
