Started as the West Adams Crop Swap, our group started meeting in 2018 to exchange our extra fruits, veggies, and other garden goodies! Eventually with over 100 residents involved, we gained positive attention from the City Council of LA by naming Jamiah Hargins a "Good Food Champion", articles in Real Simple Magazine, and Time Magazine. Our initiative is run by volunteers and local professionals who collectively aim to close the nutritional gap in Los Angeles by creating a world where all communities have access to nutrient-rich food and the knowledge to grow it.
What Crop Swap LA does
1. Crop Swap at the community garden, on FIRST SATURDAYS, we hold a monthly Crop Swap inviting any local gardeners to bring their extras to share. 10am-2pm at 2319 2nd Avenue.
2. Starting in February 2020, we will offer a workshop for kids and adults. Held at the Ed Center and Seeds of Carver Community Garden in West Adams, kids aged 6 and up will be led in Winter Gardening to appreciate nature and their food cycle. 3. Tree harvesting - do you have extra? We'll pick the extras and share them with other crop swappers! Schedule with the organizer and set it up. jamiahhargins@gmail.com
4. Upcoming activities include garden consultations, volunteer work days, and microgreens production.
