Next Book: Turtles All The Way Down by John Green
What a great discussion we had last time! For sure one of the most heated/interesting we've had in the book club so far. Thanks to everyone who came, and shared their ideas and opinions on gender, politics, religion, and society in general. "The Power" got an average of 3.3 in the bookclub and 5 out of 9 people would recommend it to someone else—so almost 50/50. I guess that explains why the discussion was so good!! Also, welcome to our new members Andrea, Melissa, Elías and Amalia. It was great to have yall here. Now, staying on the fiction side, the book that got the most votes, and hence the one we'll read next is "Turtles All The Way Down" by John Green, and the discussion will take place Saturday, July 28th at 4.30pm. One fun fact about this one is that the person who nominated it also nominated "The Power" so she got two books picked in a row! Here is a brief description of the book: "The story centers around 16-year-old Aza Holmes, a high school student living with multiple anxiety disorders, and her search for a fugitive billionaire. The only other details of the plot revealed to the public before release were that it was to contain, either literally or figuratively, a tuatara, Star Wars fanfiction, an unexpected reunion, friendship and values of life. Speaking about the novel, Green stated: "This is my first attempt to write directly about the kind of mental illness that has affected my life since childhood, so while the story is fictional, it is also quite personal." "Sixteen-year-old Aza never intended to pursue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, but there’s a hundred-thousand-dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. So together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son, Davis. Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts." Please RSVP since spots are limited. If you RSVP yes, I will be messaging you a week before the meetup to make sure you're still coming. If something changes just update your RSVP to "no" so other people get the chance to join the discussion. Also, at the end of the discussion, you will have the option to nominate a book to read next. Only people present at the book discussion can suggest a book so come prepared if you want us to read one that you like! Don't forget to bring a bottle of your choice (we prefer wine) and/or snacks if you want. That's all! I'll be posting the social soon so stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to email me or text me if you have any questions. [masked] [masked] Best, Joseph

    Lo que hacemos

We're thinkers, travelers, well-rounded people who love to see the world through the eyes of a good book. The plan here is to read a book per month, get together with some boozy inspiration and create a fascinating reading experience sharing our thoughts and insights on the books we read. We're also down to hang out and explore Quito or grab some drinks.
