Last time, Wings of Desire asked why an immortal being would give up observation for the messiness of actually living: love, pain, limitation, uncertainty. This time, we take the next step: once we choose to participate in the human world, what kind of world have we built?

Terry Gilliam’s Brazil (1985) drops us into a society ruled by bureaucracy, technology and absurd systems, where fantasy may be escape, resistance—or both. A darkly funny look at the individual versus the system, and what happens when the structures meant to serve us begin to control us.
