Welcome to Code Katas with Seattle JS Hackers

This event will be held in-person, participants will also need to join our Discord to post solutions and get links to Katas.
Doors open at 5:30pm and event commences at 6pm.

What are Code Katas?

Code Katas are a fun way to do coding exercises, in any language you want. It's a good practice to keep increasing your skills as a coder. You can practice the same kata over and over to continue improving, get feedback from others, and move on to more difficult problems to solve.

This will be a structured event where we will present the kata, and how to practice them, then everyone works to solve the problem on your own computer, get help from neighbors and mentors, and see how others solve the same problem!

What to bring

• something to code on, such as a laptop (wireless internet is available)
• there will be light snacks, and beverages though you may want to bring something more (no alcohol allowed at this venue)
• we will be posting information in the Seattle JS Discord #katas channel, so make sure to join, the invite link is at the bottom of http://seattlejs.com/join
• a positive attitude

Timeline

5:30 - code ninjas arrive and socialize
5:45 - food arrives (Sponsored by SEEKOUT)
6:00 - intro, present format and prep
6:10 - round 1 - warm up
6:45 - round 2 - challenge yourself!
8:00 - wrap up

We organize coding sessions at venues in Seattle each week. Our sessions encourage peer ideation, knowledge sharing, new champions for causes and projects, and a heightened sense of community. If you have a cool project, work on it with us!

What if I'm a novice?

This is a perfect time to start your code ninja career!

We have a wide range of experience levels, and some of us love to teach (because you usually learn something when you teach, right?) So don't be afraid. Come on over.

Join us every other week for a Seattle JS Hackathon session stewarded through frg.earth.

These sessions are for builders, researchers, designers, and technically curious people who want focused time to make real progress on software, research tooling, public-interest systems, creative compute projects, or experimental web work.

Each hackathon has a loose focus direction posted ahead of time when possible. You are welcome to follow that direction, bring your own project, pair with others, or use the session as structured build time.

If you cannot join live, I do my best to post the current hackathon focus so people can still follow along asynchronously and contribute in their own time.

This is a working session, not a lecture. Bring a laptop, an idea, a bug, a repo, a question, or just curiosity.

Good fits:

• JavaScript / TypeScript projects
• Web apps, tools, prototypes, and agents
• Research-adjacent software
• Open source experiments
• Creative or public-facing technical work
• People looking for focused build momentum
