A Perfect Fit!
We host monthly author events and films in San Francisco. Our author events are currently being held at the American Bookbinders Museum, at 355 Clementina St., and our films events are partnered with the Balboa Theatre Since 2004 we've been featuring authors and films that focus on the science fiction, fantasy, horror, and related literary genres. Previous guests include Cory Doctorow, Rudy Rucker, Patrick Rothfuss, Gail Carriger, Lev Grossman, Cecelia Holland, Steven Gould, Robert J. Sawyer, Kage Baker, Mary Robinette Kowal, Carol Emshwiller, Kim Stanley Robinson, Laurie King, Ray Garton, Lisa Goldstein, Peter S. Beagle, William F. Nolan, Seanan McGuire, Roz Kaveney, John Shirley, Pat Murphy, Ellen Klages, Brian & Wendy Froud, and too many more to list here.
We ask for $10 at the door, benefiting the American Bookbinder Museum, as it helps to pay for our rental of the space - but no one is turned away for lack of funds.
Authors read a selection from their work, and Q & A after the reading is moderated by author Terry Bisson. Books are for sale courtesy of Borderlands Books, and booksigning and schmoozing closes out each evening. A great way to meet and chat up close with your favourite authors in a relaxed atmosphere. There is a cash bar - and debut novelists with SF in SF get a specialty cocktail made for Debut Novel Drink Night!
Film nights are often sneak previews of the latest hit, and we always raffle off some great schwag! The Balboa tickets are $8 - $15, depending on the show, and can often be purchased in advance to assure your seat. We often feature special invitations to other events around the Bay Area, and give away tickets to shows and films as well.
Author events:
The American Bookbinder Museum is at 355 Clementina Street; this is an alley off of 5th Street, between Howard and Folsom. Parking is street parking (free after 6PM), and there are parking garages one block away, with reasonable prices, at both 3rd & Folsom, and 5th & Mission.
We strongly suggest taking public transportation; why not?! Take BART to Powell or Montgomery and walk down two blocks.
