Ever since you were little, haven't you always wanted to build your own Super Mario Bros game? And I'm not talking about a Mario Maker type, drag and drop, cookie cutter type of creation, I mean your own UNIQUE, never before seen, out of this world new adventure!
Welcome to SUPER MARIO DESTINY.
This is a non-profit, fan-made homage to the Mario games of old. Ask yourself, if the N64 and 3D gaming had never come along, what would the successor to "Mario World" 1 & 2 have looked like? We're creating a 2d adventure that takes the plumber bros' adventures to new heights, using modern technology and computing power to bring the world something special!
SMD offers: an involved, multi-thread storyline bringing to life the ancient history of the Mushroom Kingdom, new enemies, and new allies. Modern technology allows for a faster, grander, and more epic experience than ever. From dangerous snowy mountain passes, to rocketing along rickety mine tracks, to the mysterious deep caverns containing the Kingdom's buried history, every level is designed to offer a brand new experience.
Contribution is very open. We need graphic artists, programmers, or aspiring level designers. Credit will be given to all participants, whether they contribute one new NPC or design multiple levels.
Design is being done with the SMBX2/Platformer Game Engine. No prior knowledge is necessary and the editor is an extremely quick learn. This is, once again, strictly a non-profit work of love, to be shared freely with the world. Estimated time for completion is 1-2 years although, as I say, participants will have no long term requirements and may contribute as little or as often as they please.
All work will be done remotely for the foreseeable future, using Dropbox, a Discord channel, and occasional live discussion.
Update: as of December 2025, Super Mario Destiny Part 1 is fully released! I am currently assembling a team for production of Part 2, details are available via our Discord and our website.
