Suwanee Take-a-Hikers

Let's Take-a-Hike on the Coosa Backcountry Trail! This is a difficult hike so no beginners please.

The Coosa Backcountry Trail is a loop trail that starts at Vogel State Park. It passes Coosa Bald and Slaughter Mountain. This is an exploratory trail and one to check off this list. We will hike at a speed of about 2.0-2.5 miles per hour.

AllTrails is listing this hike at 14 miles with 3630 elevation gain. With the distance and elevation, I'm estimating 8 hours for this hike to build in time for breaks.

We will meet at the new Vogel State Park Visitors center at 9:30am. There is a $10 fee unless you have the Georgia State Parks annual park pass. Please bring plenty of water and snacks. We will stop for a lunch break along the trail. Hiking poles are recommended.

Let's Take-a-Hike to Pine Mountain!

We will hike the Pine Mountain Trail by starting at Cooper's Furnace. This trails is about 8 miles with 1650 elevation gain.
We will maintain a pace of 2-2.5 mph. This is considered a moderate hike so no beginners please. At the start of the trail, we will check out the Cooper's Furnace ruins. Then we will meander through the woods until we hit the Pine Mountain peak. We will pause here for a break then continue on the Pine Mountain trail.

We will meet at the trailhead parking lot which is beside the Etowah River and close to the dam for Lake Allatoona to begin our hike at 9am. Please bring plenty of water and snacks. Hiking poles are recommended as the trail is rooty and rocky.

Let's Take-a-Hike along the Chattooga River!

The Chattooga River Trail is a rolling hills type of trail located just outside of Clayton, GA. The trail will be about 10 miles with 1800 ft of elevation gain making this a moderate hike for our group. This is not a beginners hike.

You will see that AllTrails has this listed as a point-to-point hike. We will only be going about 4.5 miles and stopping for a lunch break by the river. If it is warm day, you can get in the river to cool off! After our lunch break, we will head back to the parking lot. We will maintain a pace of 2-2.5 mph.

We will meet at the Ingles Parking lot in Clayton at 9:30am for this hike. The trail is about a 12 minute drive from here. Please bring plenty of water and snacks. Hiking poles are recommended.

Directions from Clayton Ingles to trail head:
Turn left onto US-441.
0.5 miles; Turn left onto Falcon Drive.
8 miles; Cross bridge into SC.
Parking area on your left.
