Es una fiesta tradicional que marca la llegada de la primavera y tiene sus orígenes en el siglo XVI, cuando en Zúrich se cambiaba el horario de trabajo y las campanas sonaban a las 6 de la tarde para indicar el inicio de la jornada de verano. Con el tiempo, esta tradición se combinó con antiguos rituales populares en los que se quemaban figuras (los “Böögg”) para despedir el invierno. 🔥 Hoy en día, el Böögg —un muñeco en forma de muñeco de nieve lleno de fuegos artificiales— se quema como símbolo del fin del invierno. Welcome to the first meeting of the 20th Century World Literature Book Club Zurich! For our first book, we’ll be reading *Chronicle of a Death Foretold*, a short, gripping, and beautifully written novel by Colombian author and Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez. First published in 1981, it tells the story of a killing that everyone knows is coming, yet somehow no one stops. We’ll meet in English for a friendly, open discussion. No academic background is needed — just read the book, bring your thoughts, and join the conversation. This first book has been chosen by the organizer to get the club started.
