Satoshi Nakamoto has now been silent for 13+ years, so how does bitcoin "update" to activate/enable QR Codes, the Lightning Network, and seed-phrase backups?
Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs) are exactly what they sound like: publications describing a new feature which offers a better experience for bitcoin. A BIP write-up includes both the justification for the feature's adoption and also the technical specification required to implement the feature.
BIPs are typically hosted on GitHub or published otherwise to allow for open-source positive/negative feedback and commentary for possible acceptance. Hundreds of BIPs have been available for years for public consideration and dissection - some have been implemented into the bitcoin consensus protocol.
This meetup will explore Historical BIPs, Rejected BIPs, Activated BIPs, Silly BIPs, Important BIPs, Controversial BIPs, Popular BIPs, Meta-BIPs, all the BIPs.
We'll discuss these and more and answer any questions you may have. Beginners welcome.
