Hack The Gender Gap

BeCentral

THERE'S NO CIVIC LAB OR WIKI CLUB ON 29/01 AS THERE's A BIG EVENT: HACK THE GENDER GAP! Tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hack-the-gender-gap-tickets-53964891443?aff=ebdssbdestsearch Wikipedia is the 5th most visited website in the world. It’s simple: we all used it when searching for information about a famous person or a historical event. But did you know that only 17% of Wikipedia bio’s were about women? It’s a woefully inaccurate reflection of women’s achievements. And we’ve got great news: you can help. On 29 January 2019, the Wiki Club will be somewhat bigger: we'll hack the gender gap! We’ll join forces to add women’s profiles on Wikipedia. And believe us, the feeling you get out is simply BRILLIANT: You learn about some extraordinary kick-ass women and you empower them by recognizing their work. Here’s what’s going to happen: 18h20 - 18h50: Registrations 18h50 - 18h55 : Welcome by BeCentral 18h55 - 19H05: Speech by Didier Gossuin, Minister of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region, responsible for Economy & Employment. 19h05 - 19h10 : Speech by Loubna Azghoud, Women In Tech Brussels 19h10 - 19h30 : Keynote 19h30 - 21h00 : Creation of profiles in smaller groups. 21h00 - 21h30: Closing drink & Results. FAQ: 1. Are they any requirements to attend the events? Absolutely not! Most of us never edited Wikipedia before so we will take you through all the steps. You don’t need experience, nor knowledge on the theme. 2. You need to bring your OWN LAPTOP! 3. You need to create your Wikipedia account beforehand. It takes 2 minutes ;) 4. If you admire a woman in particular, we'll teach you how to create her profile. If not, we have plenty of names in stock for you! (Women In Tech, Women in Democracy, Women in Literature, ect.). 5. Registrations are free of charge but mandatory. Psssss: Food & Drinks are included!

Open Belgium Conference 2019

Herman Teirlinck building, Tour & Taxis site

Let's make Belgian knowledge open, usable, useful and used! Open Belgium is an annual Open Knowledge and Open Data conference gathering industry, research, government and citizen stakeholders. In other words, anyone who is interested in Open Knowledge and Open Data is more than welcome! We aim to bring you up to speed with the latest trends, innovations and best practices by sharing experiences among this wide range of participants. Get inspired by high-level keynote speakers, engaging panel discussions, hands-on and minds-on workshops as well as the interactive exhibition space where a multitude of partners present innovative products, services and research. Since the event is community-driven, you can influence the conference program. How? By responding to the open call for proposals, which is published on our website until January 13. A selection committee will then decide on the remaining tracks and lineup. Your proposal didn't get selected? No worries, we will provide an open space for lightening talks to give everyone the chance to share their ideas. If this sparked your interest, join us on March 4 in Brussels and become part of the open community! Register here: https://openbelgium2019.eventbrite.co.uk Check out our website, www.openbelgium.be, for more information and feel free to join the Twitter conversation via #openbelgium19.
