Details

# Agenda:

16h45 : Reception of Attendees
17h00 : Welcome (Daniel Gachet, Professor HEIA-FR)

17h05 : MicroPython for the IoT (Jacques Supcik, Professor HEIA-FR)

According to the 2018 survey of Stack Overflow, Python is one of the most loved programming languages and the most wanted one. Python is used in many world-class software companies as well as in high schools, colleges and universities. MicroPython is an implementation of the Python 3 programming language optimized for embedded systems. During this presentation, I will present MicroPython and its derivatives, and I will show you some typical use cases for MicroPython. In the second part, I will demonstrate how to install the system on a cheap microcontroller and during a live coding session, I will implement a functional IoT device.

17h55 : Mbed OS for fast IoT prototyping and product development ? (Serge Ayer, Professor HEIA-FR)

Today, when conceiving and developing an IoT system, developers and companies are faced with having to choose a communication system and technology from a very wide range of available solutions.
Each solution usually offers its own operating system, development platform and language, and therefore requires a long learning phase.
Since a lot of the proposed platforms use Arm-based microcontrollers, Mbed OS could be a solution to this problem. Arm Mbed OS is a free, open-source embedded operating system designed for the Internet of Things. It provides all the features required for a connected product based on Arm Cortex-M microcontrollers. In particular, it offers different development environments based on the C++ programming language, a RTOS and support for various connectivity technologies, including Bluetooth Low Energy, LoRA and Thread.
This presentation will give a short introduction to this platform and demonstrate a few prototypes using different connectivity technologies.

18h45 : Information HEIA-FR (Roland Scherwey, Professor HEIA-FR)
19h00 : Aperitif and Networking
