- We meet 13.20 PM at beginning of plattform 7 -- Stuttgart Central Station / our train is RE1 leaving 13:32 PM
- OR you come by car to Sender Mühlacker -- Parking is avaiable.
We meet you there 14.30 PM .
- From the train station in Mühlacker, we will walk another 30 minutes to the transmitter.
- After the guided tour, we will visit a nearby Greek restaurant.
About the transmitter:
Since 1930, Mühlacker has been home to a major broadcasting station. Its original wooden tower was, in its first version, the tallest wooden structure in the world — until it was demolished in April 1945. It was replaced in 1949/50 by today's landmark: a 273-meter steel tube mast, making it the tallest structure in Baden-Württemberg.
The site broadcast shortwave (until 2004) and medium wave (until 2012); today a newer steel lattice tower (built 2004) handles FM and DAB+ signals.
In 2020, a private initiative led by former transmission technician Jürgen Fegert bought the site from broadcaster SWR to preserve it. Since then, it houses a small radio museum and offers guided tours of the grounds and the base of the 273-m tower (by appointment via email). Admission is free, donations welcome.
