Systems thinking in practice
Systems thinking in practice:
Visual, collective, and experiential applications for everyday messiness
Rooted into Greek philosophy and multiple scientific disciplines, systems thinking is again on a hype today.
As we experience crises in our world, a myriad of academics, managers, consultants, gurus, and influencers invoke the need of ‘systemic change’, ‘systemic solutions’, ‘systemic impact’ and whatnot to address today’s problems.
In this workshop, we will first pause and reflect: what are we talking about when we invoke systems thinking? In relatively simple terms, what is its ‘essence’? Why and when might it help us to deal with today’s crises? How might systems thinking help us navigate everyday work and life with deeper and more collective consciousness?
To tackle these questions, we will engage together in a simple visual and collective application of systems thinking. We refer to this application as participatory systems mapping. If we use this application as a basis of our next experiments in our work and lives, it might turn us into collectively conscious teams of everyday ‘systemic action researchers’.
