“From the point of view of the life instinct, death is the goal of life.”
— Sigmund Freud, Beyond the Pleasure Principle

“We tell ourselves stories in order to live.”
— Joan Didion, The White Album

We are creating a social and intimate meeting of open-minded, intellectually curious and diverse individuals in Paris who do not wish for their brains slowly atrophy in the age of Tik Tok. 🤪 Open to avid readers and those who have not picked-up a book since high school.

The book club will meet once per month to discuss one piece of modern/ contemporary fiction/ memoir/ or essay collections surrounding themes of: moral anxiety, depravity and collapse, nihilism, friendship, love, desire, longing and grief, psychoanalysis, the masculine/feminine binary, life and death drive, survival and alienation, free will and destiny, finding meaning and humour in a fucked up world… and much more!

Vibe: Joan Didion, Michel Houellebecq, Hanya Yanaghihara, Ottessa Moshfegh, Virginia Woolf, Bret Easton Ellis, Eve Babitz, James Baldwin, Magda Szabó, Elena Ferrante, Rachel Cusk, John Giorno, Olivia Nuzzi etc.

Nothing is set in stone, everything is open to suggestion, discussion, and collaboration 💘

Fill out the form below only if you are seriously interested. Hoping to keep this group small (6-9 people max) as it will be hosted in an apartment setting; if there is more interest, we will find a bigger space. Hoping to start our first meeting in February 2026!Open to all, but you must have a very high level of conversational English!
