In *Cheese and Worms* (1976), Carlo Ginzburg explored the worldview of Menocchio, a humble miller condemned to be burned at the stake for heresy at the end of the 16th century. Drawing on the archives of the Inquisition, the Italian historian reconstructed the accused's personal library. During this "Unexpected" lecture, relive this dark affair through books from the rare book collection of the Study and Heritage Library that Menocchio might have read.
