English Language Book Club - Convenience Store Woman
Détails
I’m hosting the first session of Lille Lit et Amis, a small, relaxed English-language book club in Lille, and you’re very welcome to join.
📖 First book: Convenience Store Woman – Sayaka Murata
🗓 When: Thursday 5 March 2026, 19:30–21:30
📍 Where: Central Lille (exact address shared with confirmed attendees)
👥 Max group size: 14 people
About the book (according to the internet)
Convenience Store Woman is a short, witty, and quietly subversive novel about Keiko, a woman who finds comfort and identity in working at a convenience store. Through her story, the book explores ideas of “normality”, conformity, work, and belonging — and tends to spark a lot of discussion and differing opinions.
This will be a friendly, informal evening focused on conversation and connection — no pressure to finish the book. I’ll provide drinks and snacks, just bring yourself and your thoughts.
As this is the first session, the book has been chosen by the host. Going forward, the aim is to make the group open and collaborative, with members suggesting and voting on future book choices together.
The plan is to meet regularly on Thursday evenings (roughly every 6 weeks) and build a small, welcoming group.
Open to anyone happy to read and discuss in English — whether you’re new to Lille, have lived here for years, or are simply curious to join.
👉 Please RSVP on Meetup. I’ll message attendees closer to the date with details.
