8-week-Film Directing workshop

The Eight-Week workshop equips students with the fundamental skills in a variety of filmmaking disciplines including camera operating, editing, directing, producing and screenwriting. The course culminates in students producing their own short film.

This course is suitable for beginners, no previous experience required.

Eight Week workshop is a fully immersive course. Students can expect to explore the world of filmmaking and content creation through practical workshops, lectures and crew role exercises. Designed to improve students understanding, knowledge and practice in the following areas:

Session 1

Screenwriting

• Storytelling foundations: Theme, tone and genre
• The 3 Acts Structure:Inciting Incident. Plot Points. Climax.
• Linear and non linear structures
• Scene fundamentals: Scene Goals. Character goals. Beats.
• Characters: Biography and Backstory
• Practicum: Screenwriting exercise

Session 2

Film grammar

• Staging and blocking fundamentals
• The connection between Script, camera and Acting
• The Shot: Fundamentals and uses. Shot sizes. Camera angles.
• Camera movements: Pan. Tilt. Dolly. Zoom and tracking
• The shot list. Floor plans
• Practicum: Camera exercise

Session 3

• Shooting techniques
• The 180º Rule.The 30º Rule.
• Shot and reverse shot Technique
• The Master shot technique

• Composition Rules: Balance and point of interest

• Directing actors
• The rehearsal process
• The 1st reading: Zone Zero.
• Rehearsal techniques: Images. Action Verbs. Physical activity

• Quick tips to improve Actors perfomances before and after the take

Instructor

Ezequiel Rubin

Born in Argentina in1977. He works as Producer/ Assistant Director and Filmmaking Teacher. He has collaborated for several projects from Spain, Argentina Italy and Canada, working for companies such as Tve, Factotum, Rai Cinema, Tv3, Met Films and MediaPro.
