Free pre-Halloween film +popcorn! The People Under the Stairs (Wes Craven, 1991)
Détails
NB: Not at our usual Shirkers Rest venue but that does mean the evening WILL include a screening of this 1h37m satirical haunted-house comedy thriller written and directed by horror legend Wes Craven - creator of Nightmare On Elm Street and Scream - showing "on the big screen in the spooky darkness of Deptford Library front foyer".
Featuring Mission Impossible's Ving Rhames, Twin Peaks' Everett McGill and Wendy Robie, plus many Buffy-style practical effects, there's a brief trailer for the 15-cert film here:

You can "Book as Guest" to reserve a free place via the library website:
https://lewisham.events.mylibrary.digital/event?id=244204
...which reassures that "FREE POPCORN will be provided! But if you would like any additional snacks or [presumably non-alcoholic?] refreshments you are welcome to bring your own."
The library usually closes fairly soon after the screening but there's always the possibility of a post-film "sensible mid-week drink" somewhere near like Badger Badger the other side of the railway bridge on Deptford High St.
