Boreon - Lake Trecolpas - Pas de Ladre

Détails
With the weather forecast for Sunday looking very good with sunshine, sunshine, sunshine, I suggest a hike to Lake Trecolpas, above St Martin Vésubie.
It is a very pleasant forest trail, punctuated by magnificent views from the mountain ridges of the High Borréon, including the spectacular gneiss walls of the Cougourde (2,921 m), a characteristic peak shaped like a pumpkin ("Cougourde" means "pumpkin" in local dialect, hence this amusing surname).
Because of the site's majesty, the quality of the rock, and the considerable height of its faces (400 m), the Cougourde has attracted numerous climbers in summer and autumn for more than half a century.
The route is also enriched by the regular presence of water, from small adjacent valleys to the green meadows of the Borréon, with the peaceful Lake Trécolpas (2,150 m) as its highlight. Nestled below the Pas des Ladres (2,448 m), a must-pass trail leading to the sanctuary of the Madonna of Fenestre, which is very busy in July and August.
This is a Flexihike hike with social pace and two options:
- only to the lake as medium hike with +/-500m
- extension to Pas de Ladres which add 300m delta
Pace: medium, social hiking
Start-time: 10h00
Elevation gain: 500m (800m when going to Pas des Ladres)
Duration: about 4-6h00 plus time for lunch
Meeting point: Parking Boreon
The usual: proper shoes, water, a rain coat, wind breaker, warm pullover and something to eat for your lunch. Plus sun glasses and sun screen. Maybe a swim suit if you want to swim in the lake (cold!!)
If you need a car share, please ask in the comments.
