Scala Central #8
Détails
Our next Scala Central event will be on the 25th May, where we are being hosted by The Telegraph.
We have 3 x 20 minute talks lined up on expression problems, Spark Notebook and CI/CD pipelines using SBT.
We’ll be hearing from Giuseppe Scopelliti, who will be discussing overcoming expression problems with datatypes, and Antonio Rodrigues, who will be giving a talk on CI/CD pipelines with SBT.
We're also excited to welcome Gerard Maas from Belgium, who will be giving an interactive talk on developing data analytics with Spark, Scala and Spark Notebook.
If you’re interested in being involved with future meetups, please do get in touch, we’re always keen to hear from you!
The agenda for the evening will be as follows.
7pm: Giuseppe Scopelliti, The Telegraph
Title: Expression Problem
Abstract: Define a datatype by cases, where one can add new cases to the datatype and new functions over the datatype, without recompiling existing code, and while retaining static type safety (e.g. no casts)
7.20pm: Gerard Maas, Lead Engineer @ Kensu.io
Title: Developing Data Analytics Jobs with Spark, Scala and the Spark Notebook
Abstract: The Spark Notebook is a Scala-centric, interactive web app that implements the 'notebook' paradigm: It combines descriptions and code to explore, analyse and learn from massive data sets using Apache Spark.
In this presentation, we will see how the Spark Notebook upgrades our Scala skills to address data-oriented problems and enables us to rapidly evolve through the full data application lifecycle: from exploring data to deployable jobs.
About Gerard: I'm the Lead Engineer at Kensu.io (http://kensu.io/), an early-stage startup working on Big Data Governance. I often share tech knowledge and lessons learned at meetups and conferences about Scala, Spark and Cassandra (Devoxx, Spark Summit, BeScala, Spark Belgium, SkillsMatter). I'm a DataStax Cassandra MVP ('15, '16), Open Source and Stack Overflow contributor.
7.40pm: Antonio Rodrigues, The Telegraph
Title: CI/CD Pipeline with SBT
Abstract: In this talk, we are going to present a CI/CD pipeline solution based on SBT. In this presentation, we are going to talk about how we have achieved CI/CD approach and how the process standardised among all services. It will also include a demo to show how flexible and customisable the solution is.
8pm: Socialise and Refreshments
We do have limited space (as you will have seen if you came along to the previous meetups!), so please do RSVP early to avoid disappointment.
We look forward to seeing you there!
All the best,
Alice, Tony and the Scala Central team
