Art X Fashion @ The Museum at FIT
Art X Fashion @ The Museum at FIT
Admission to the museum is free. This exhibition will be on display from February 19 until April 19, 2026. If you cannot attend the opening, please stop in and see the show at your convenience. Call ahead for hours. This exhibition is a comprehensive exploration of the symbiotic relationship between the world of fashion and fine art. Featuring more than 140 objects, including garments, accessories, textiles, photographs, and original artworks drawn from MFIT's permanent collection, *Art X Fashion* challenges the traditional hierarchies of visual culture, presenting fashion and art each as parallel, potent expressions of social, intellectual, and creative forces. Curated by Dr. Elizabeth Way, curator of costume and accessories at MFIT, the exhibition reflects MFIT's mission to advance the understanding and appreciation of fashion's critical role in culture. The core of *Art X Fashion* lies in its profound engagement with the eternal question: "Is fashion art?" The exhibition explores the ways that fashion has always been a partner, not a follower, of fine art, highlighting typically overlooked integrations throughout history. This includes examples of how the two disciplines have worked together to create European styles, from the drama of Rococo and Neoclassical grandeur to the unsettling world of Surrealism, to the shock of Pop Art and postmodernism. **Share your excitement using #ArtXFashionMFIT** **Go to https://www.fitnyc.edu/museum/exhibitions/art-fashion/index.php for more information.**
Texpats Happy Hour at Ready Cantina
Texpats Happy Hour at Ready Cantina
*Hey, Perplexity. Write a quick description of Ready Cantina in NYC and why transplanted Texans would want to visit for happy hour.* **Quick pitch to Texans:** **[Ready Cantina](https://moxyeastvillage.com/the-ready-cantina-rooftop/)** is basically an East Village rooftop porch with tacos, cheapish margs, and skyline views. It's an easy stand‑in for the patio happy hours you left behind in Texas. **What it’s like:** * Rooftop space in the East Village with views over downtown and a fully retractable glass roof, so it works in all weather and all seasons. * Bright, colorful decor and playlists aimed at relaxed hangs, meetups, and spontaneous nights out, not white‑tablecloth dining. * Menu centered on tacos, Mexican‑inspired snacks, classic and frozen cocktails, and tableside coolers where groups can mix and match canned beers, wine, and cocktails. **Why transplanted Texans would care:** Tacos and margaritas as a ritual. Happy hour leans into Tex‑Mex comfort—tacos plus beers, Micheladas, and margaritas at approachable prices, which hits close to the after‑work rhythm a lot of Texans are used to. **Backyard energy in a vertical city:** The space is marketed as feeling like a New York backyard party on a rooftop, a fun analog if you’re craving the casual patio/porch vibe you’d get at bars in Austin, Dallas, or Houston. **Happy hour specifics:** Weekday happy hour 4–7 pm with deals like $6 beers, $9 Micheladas, and $12 margaritas... **which is great if you miss that “day drinking on a patio” culture from back home. 🍻**

NYC Networking & Social Event
NYC Networking & Social Event
Get tickets at: [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/679734583437](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/679734583437) **WHAT IS A SECRET NETWORKING EVENT?** This event is for those who want to network for business or just want to come out and socialize. Whether you are an entrepreneur, small business owner, business professional or just someone who wants to meet new people, this event is for you! It's the perfect opportunity to get away from your desk, have some cocktails and network with potential business partners, investors, industry professionals and new clients.... Or make some new friends! We've witnessed countless business connections and friendships form at our past events. We'd say about 70% of the crowd is usually single so it can be a great place to meet someone special as well. A Secret Networking Event is a revolutionary new event that is changing the way people network in NYC. It is a fun and easy way to connect with others in a relaxed, low pressure environment. **SECRET SYMBOL** After you sign up we'll send you an email with a list of different industries and interests to choose from. Each industry/interest will have a different "secret symbol". This secret symbol will let the other event attendees know what industry/industries you're in or what topic/topics you're interested in. Once you select what industry and/or topics you're interested in you'll be directed to a page with printable paper bracelet templates with your secret symbol on them. You can select one industry or multiple industries or topics. If you don't have access to a printer you can simply draw the secret symbol/s on the back of your hand with a marker or pen before arriving at the event. For example... those in the tech industry might have a triangle as their secret symbol... those in the real estate industry might have a square as their secret symbol... those single and looking to potentially meet someone special might have a circle as their secret symbol... those interested in crypto might have a lightning bolt as their secret symbol, etc. Then you simply show up at the venue at the listed start time and get started meeting people. **\*\* EVENT LOCATION IS LISTED ON THE EVENTBRITE PAGE \*\*** *\* QUICK NOTE: THIS IS A MULTI-MEETUP GROUP EVENT. 25 OTHER GROUPS HAVE ALSO BEEN INVITED SO WE'LL BE SURE TO HAVE A GOOD SIZE TURNOUT. The crowd was really great and everyone was super friendly. As a busy professional I don't get that much time to get out and meet people so it was nice to be in such a relaxed environment.
**English** Enjoy French conversation in a relaxed atmosphere at a bar. “Conversation française à Brooklyn” is a French conversation group that takes place every other Friday evening. At a bar, café, or park near central Brooklyn and several subway lines, there will be a French speaking host (me) who can lead the conversation. The location may change from week to week, but wherever we are, you will be able to speak French and meet interesting people. The goal of this group is to give its participants (of all levels) the opportunity to practice French. In this group, we speak 100% in French (but don't be intimidated, we'll be there to help if you can't think of a word). If you're still learning, the recommended level to attend is weak intermediate or higher. If you can't follow the discussion, I'm happy to repeat anything or help you express some things that you might never have said in French before. The only way to improve is to practice! ***Donate to cover the costs of the group here: [https://www.venmo.com/u/brooklyn-meetup](https://www.venmo.com/u/brooklyn-meetup)***

Cash Rules Everything Around Me: Personal Finance 101
[REGISTER HERE](https://fatcatfablab.corsizio.com/event/6976690936890519abd8a0ce) **Class fee is on a sliding scale of $10-$30, with suggested amount of $15, tea and sweets included!** Like it or not, cash rules everything around us, so we gotta get a handle on things to meet our goals and build security in the future. Wonder where your money goes every month? Want to start investing? Can’t decide how much to save for retirement? In debt and want a better strategy? Employer benefit indecision? Always surprised at tax time?? These are a few topics I’ll cover in several different workshops over the next few months, among many others. But it all has to start with getting to know the in’s and out’s of your money flows. That’s what these first two sessions are about. See below for what's being covered in 101. This will be a group workshop with discussions and activities. ### BEFORE YOU ARRIVE **Bring a laptop and make sure you either have a Google account set up or Microsoft Excel installed. Bring to class exports of the last three complete months of transactions from all your accounts. In this case that would be Nov 2025 - Jan 2026. CSV files will be the easiest to work with. Contact me with question how to download these. Don't forget credit cards, checking accounts, Venmo, everything that your money flows through. Working with real numbers is really important to making a solid plan. Your financial data will not be shown to the class and will stay private.** ### Learning Goals of Personal Finance 101 1. Get more comfortable talking about money (everyone’s situation is unique and you can share as much or as little with the group as you feel comfortable) 2. Learn about my Timed Envelope approach to building budgets. Using a Google Sheets template I've built, we’ll make a practice budget together, discussing how to handle less frequent spending like travel or annual bills. How to BUILD IN long term savings to your budget. We’ll use made up transactions for this exercise. 3. Build your draft budget based on 3 months of your actual transactions. You’ll make a copy of my spreadsheet template to help speed this up. This’ll be a individual work, but I’ll be available to to answer questions or give advice. **Your privacy will be respected.** 4. Learn about a few different tools available to track your money and stay organized. **HW:** You’re homework for after this session will be to set up your system for tracking your spending and income against the budget you’ve created. You can use one of the tools I talk about or do things manually. **During this session, no one will comment on anyone else’s spending. And in general during the series, I will never tell you that you need to spend less or more on X or Y. All levels of experience in personal finance and income are welcome.** [Personal Finance 102](https://fatcatfablab.corsizio.com/event/69766e7836890519abd9cce1) we’ll dive deeper into revising your budget based on your real spending and your goals and values. Money is just a means to an end. How does you spending reflect what you value? We’ll talk tips for tracking cash, organizing receipts, and lowering your bills. Further sessions will cover more specific situations like those named at the top. I consider 101 and 102 to be prerequisites for further sessions.

Burgundy!
Burgundy!
Please join me at Nice Matin for a night of Burgundy wines. This will be an 8-person dinner featuring 2 different white wines followed by 1 Beaujolais (It is technically a part of Burgundy) and 2 red (Pinot Noir) Burgundy wines. Why two white wines, and why am I breaking from my traditional 1 white/4 reds format? Because I've noticed that when I save my white wine for the first course, I end up finishing my food before I get to the final red wine. So I'm hoping that by having 2 whites, I'lll be able to pace myself a little better. Here is a link to their menu: [Nice Matin Dinner Menu](https://www.nicematinnyc.com/menus/#dinner) Nice Matin is located at 201 W. 79th Street, the corner of Amsterdam Ave. \*\* The cost of this event is $40 and is for the cost of the wines. **NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.** Just a reminder of our usual rules: You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). You will be expected to order at least 2 dishes (an appetizer and a main, or main and dessert) to help support the restaurant. Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee. **The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):** **2021 Domaine Denis Bachelet Bourgogne-Aligoté ($50) - CT 91.6,** I love Aligote! And while this may be on the expensive side for Aligote, I have always enjoyed Bachelet's version. No reviews, but here is what the importer said, " It is a fantastic example of Aligoté at its best, full of upper register white floral intensity, mouthwatering acidity/minerality, and excellent depth. Salty citrus sensations will find Amber calling this "Margarita wine" **2021 Domaine Michel Mallard & Fils Bourgogne Blanc ($31)** \- CT 89\, and now a Chardonnay\. Here is what Allen Meadows said about the 2019\, "Pretty and fresh aromas of white flowers\, pear and an interesting hint of anise give way to intense\, round and nicely rich flavors that possess enough depth and persistence on the refreshing finish to make this relatively forward effort worth considering\. 87 points" **2021 Anthony Thevenet Morgon Cuvée Centenaire ($45)** \- A Gamay from Beaujolais\. I've poured this for our group in the past and we loved it\. The FINAL vintage of this cuvee and my last bottle\. From a \.5 hectare vineyard that has vines aged some 100 to 150 years\, with minuscule 10hl/ha yields\. It was costing almost as much to farm\, as they were selling the wine for\, so this is it\! Neil Martin gave the 2018 93 points and said\, "A beautifully defined nose brings dark berry fruit\, bay leaf\, and touches of dark chocolate\. The palate is medium\-bodied\, clean and precise with fine grained tannins\. Again dark chocolate touches complement the red berry fruit with a hint of licorice on the finish\. Superb\. Just 1000\-odd bottles produced\." **2021 Domaine François Buffet Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses ($52)** \- CT 90\, WA \(90\-92\)\, Allen Meadows Burghound \(90\-93\) points\, ""A pure\, cool and ultra\-fresh nose speaks mostly of various red berries along with touch of earth and underbrush\. There is equally good freshness and verve to the utterly delicious middleweight flavors that are almost aggressively saline in character\, all wrapped in a balanced\, linear and solidly persistent finale\. \(90\-93\)/2027\+" **2012 Domaine Fourrier Morey St. Denis Clos Solon Vieille Vigne ($100)** \- CT 91\.9\. Both scores are from 2014\. BH \(89\-91\)\, Vinous \(90\-92\) points\, "Dark red berries\, plums\, spices\, licorice and mint jump from the 2012 Morey\-St\. Denis Clos Solon\. Deep\, rich and beautifully layered in the glass\, the Clos Solon is a great introduction to the vintage at Fourrier\. The 2012 is silky\, powerful and absolutely impeccable from start to finish\. Beams of minerality give the finish energy\, tension and bracing salinity"

Of Grammatology (week 2)
Of Grammatology (week 2)
Join us for weekly discussions of Jacques Derrida's 1967 deconstruction of the speech/writing binary in western philosophy, *Of Grammatology*. **Required reading for this meeting: ch. 2 Linguistics and Grammatology (pg. 29) up to The Hinge _[La Brisure_] (pg. 71)** (Note: we’re meeting at 2pm this week instead of our usual 1pm) Most of us are reading the [2016 edition of the book](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DbDLEE6P5JsS9hkTAR-vGfG6E-Wh9BGn/view?usp=sharing). We plan to meet weekly and work our way through the whole book about 30–40 pages at a time. We'll be meeting at Art Cafe + Bar in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. This event is free but we're all still socially obligated to purchase something, and Art Cafe is a cool place that we should support! They have a bar and they serve coffee and tea among other non-alcoholic drinks, as well as food.
