Are you Smarter than a Scottish Guy Trivia - One Eyed Jack's Richmond Street
Are you Smarter than a Scottish Guy Trivia - One Eyed Jack's Richmond Street
We are following our favourite trivia host, Simon from Are You Smarter than a Scottish Guy, to one of his other weekly locations: One-Eyed Jack's at 287 Richmond Road (between John and Peter Streets). The beer selection at this location is quite minimal but their food menu is good - https://www.oneeyedjackpub.com/torontomenu. They have a $0.95 wing special with lots of flavours. The trivia starts at 7:00pm with first question at 7:15 pm. We have a pair of tables (12 people) reserved under Steve so far. Serious RSVPs only as no-shows prevent us from fielding a complete team. Top prizes is a gift certificate for the next visit. Other prizes are a free round for the table and nachos. There is also a small prize for best team name, so put on your creative hat; the host seems to like puns and prefers short team names. Let's have some fun, eat some wings, and hopefully win!

Members range from 20-40 years old. The group is a mix of GTA locals and newcomers to Toronto from within Canada and abroad. Attendance numbers on Meetup don't reflect our actual event attendance - we typically have 15-20 community members at each event. Large enough that there's someone new to meet but small enough that it's not overwhelming! ***Learn more at our website [www.wildernessunion.com](https://www.wildernessunion.com/)***
🏙️🚶 OLD CABBAGETOWN, REGENT PARK & DISTILLERY DISTRICT WALK (9KM) 🚶🏙️
🏙️🚶 OLD CABBAGETOWN, REGENT PARK & DISTILLERY DISTRICT WALK (9KM) 🚶🏙️
🏙️🚶 OLD CABBAGETOWN, REGENT PARK & DISTILLERY DISTRICT WALK (9KM) 🚶🏙️ Historic Streets, City Contrasts & A Distillery District Finish Some walks show you just how many different versions of Toronto can exist within a few kilometres. Join us for a social city walk through some of Toronto’s most layered and contrasting neighbourhoods — from the storybook streets of Cabbagetown, to the revitalized energy of Regent Park, ending in the iconic Distillery District. Cabbagetown is known for having one of the largest collections of Victorian homes in North America — quiet, tree-lined streets that feel almost frozen in time. From there, we’ll move into Regent Park, where old Toronto meets new in one of the city’s most significant redevelopments. We’ll finish in the Distillery District, once home to the largest distillery in the world, now a vibrant pedestrian area full of brick buildings, art, and atmosphere. This is not a formal historical tour. It’s a social walk with light storytelling, good energy, and lots to take in along the way. 👉 **Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp group** – [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) *** 🚶‍♂️ What We’ll Do We’ll meet outside the subway station and begin our walk into Cabbagetown, wandering through its charming residential streets before making our way toward Regent Park. As we move through the neighbourhood, you’ll see the blend of old and new Toronto — community spaces, modern builds, and the evolution of the area. From there, we’ll continue south toward the Distillery District, where the walk wraps up. You’re free to explore, grab a drink, or head out whenever you like. Please note: there will be some stairs along the route. *** 🌦️ Weather & Expectations This walk will happen in typical April weather — which means anything from sun to light rain. As long as it’s not extreme conditions or heavy downpour, we’ll be going ahead. Be prepared and dress accordingly. Comfortable shoes are important, and layers are always a good idea. Also — this is NOT a guided or formal historical tour. I’ll share context casually, but the focus is on being social and enjoying the walk. *** 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Location: Outside the subway station 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Meetup Time: 11:00 AM I will only wait 5 minutes. Early is on time. On time is late. We’ll begin promptly, so please plan ahead. End Point: Distillery District *** 🎟️ Meetup Fee: $5 cash in person or e-transfer to 📧 **mathewmaclean@hotmail.com** This helps support the group and allows us to keep hosting events like this. Thank you for supporting community! 💖 *** 🎒 What to Bring Water Good walking shoes A small snack Weather-appropriate clothing (rain-ready if needed ☔) Please also use the washroom before arriving, as stops are limited. *** 🌈 Who Is This For? This group is open to anyone who wants to be social and make friends — whether single or not. We also host: 🎬 Movies 🚶 Walks & hikes 🎭 Arts & culture outings 🍽️ Restaurant gatherings There’s always something happening. *** REMEMBER: You’re welcome to just show up on the day if you’re unsure about your schedule. And as always, sometimes plans shift and events may need to be canceled — please keep an eye on updates. *** 👤 Organizer: Mathew Questions? Post on the event wall or email 📧 torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com Come for the history. Stay for the contrasts. Leave seeing Toronto just a little differently than before. 🏙️✨

Diffuse Harms and Fortuna’s Wheel
Diffuse Harms and Fortuna’s Wheel
A diffuse harm hurts many people a little; a concentrated harm hurts one person a lot. Other things equal, diffuse harm seems less bad than its concentrated counterpart. For example, shortening a billion happy lives by a second each seems less bad than shortening one happy life by a billion seconds (\~30 years). But this attractive thought is surprisingly difficult to maintain. Although many problems for such a view are known, a particularly vivid difficulty arises in cases that involve a sequence of social positions, each very similar to the last, such as the Fortuna’s Wheel scenario. In such cases, it follows, from rather minimal assumptions, that diffuse harm is just as bad as its relevantly similar concentrated counterpart. In response, some may wonder whether the parity of diffuse and concentrated harms holds only in these special sequential cases. But it can be argued that the approximate parity of diffuse and concentrated harms extends well beyond such cases. Specifically, it can be argued that in many realistic cases, a diffuse harm will bring about an outcome approximately as bad as a relevantly similar concentrated harm. Diffuse harm is easily underestimated.
